I know this has been asked before, but the search function isn't working for me. Have you been to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos? We are taking our 2 kids, DS13 and DD11 along with 2 of their friends on June 22 for their birthdays, and I was wondering what my friends on the DIS thought. What about food? Is there a place nearby to eat? I have heard that the food there is expensive. I expect that, but is there a better place to eat in the area?
Thanks!

If the GWL sit down food is the same at at Williamsburg; my thought is stay away. It was aweful and over priced. I'd find some place local to eat.

Send a PM to Papa Deuce, he took his girls last year.

We were there last month, but didn't bother to eat in the restaurant. We drove over to Barley Creek since we'd been there before.

The waterpark is very nice. We all thought that the water rollercoaster goes faster than the one at TL. The tube slides were fun, but I think our favorite was the toliet bowl slide (don't know what it's really called.) The towels they provide are skimpy and you need two of them to really dry off and they don't dry out while you're out doing something else.

After hearing the check-in horror stories, I was prepared for the worst, but we only waited about 10 minutes in line and our room was ready at 2 p.m. The only problem we had with the room was with the heating system, which probably won't be a problem now that it has warmed up. The system was so loud that every time it came on, it woke us up.

The hotel has a huge arcade, the biggest I've ever seen, but we were too tired to go there.

We just got back about 2 hours ago from the one in Sandusky, OH. We had a great time and everyone loved it! There was hardly anyone there so we did alot! The slides were fantastic.

I would defiantely recommend taking your own towels as the ones they provide definately leave alot to be desired. We went to a local restaurant as the food choices and prices were not that great.

We will definately go back!

i know im not an adult and mainly post on the teen boards but i thought i could help...

i live 5 minutes away...stay away from the food...it is expensive and it is horrible, but there is a pizza hut on the bottom level that is good and inexspensive. i am the age of your son, and i admit it might seem a little baby-ish to them. there are 2 local malls so thats another thing. thats basically it.

We went over Thanksgiving and loved it ....except for the food! We did bring along breakfast and lunch items so that helped. They have a full fridge, coffee makter and microwave, I brought along a single slice toaster.

The "sit down" restaurant is a buffet, pricey and just ok. We ate dinner there one night and except for the $$ we all enjoyed the meal. The rest of the time we ate lunch in the water park, the pizza was ok, my dd's liked the burgers and loved the Onion rings! One day we left property and ate at the Brewery down the street.

So we ended up eating breakfast in the room, spending the day at the water park including lunch and then having sandwiches a couple nights in the room for dinner. We kind of switched lunch/dinner on that trip. Honestly it worked out well as the kids were exhausted after playing at the water park for hours all day. Resting in the room, watching TV and having a lighter dinner worked out great. They also enjoyed the arcade and my 9yo liked the clock show.
