OK, we did 3 days, getting home today. Overall it was pretty good. So here is the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:
Good: The waterpark was amazing. I would say primarily geared for the under 12 crowd but eveyrbody seemed to enjoy it, even the teens. The whole palce was highly decorated and I loved that they said "Christmas" everywhere, not just holidays. We had the most basic rooms and the were fine, nothing special, but clean and interesting. Everybody has a balcony.
The Bad ( really just average ). The restaurant was just "fair". It is a buffet. They have the exact same meals everyday. A little overpriced, but "ok". The shows were fien I guess, for the under 8 crowd, but older than that will be dissapointed, I would think. The cub club was OK too, but you pay for almost every activity, and usually too much for it.
The VERY UGLY: Check in. Check in is listed at 4 PM (" or as soon as rooms become available" ) Now what that meant to me, and apparently hundreds of othe rpeople was 4PM, or earlier if they are ready. Nope. What it really means is any time they give you a room AFTER 4 PM. People who got there at 1 PM ( knowing that they can use the water park ) spent an hour in line only to be told to check back at 4PM or later to see if rooms arer ready. Literally hundreds of people in line. So, why not tell them as a whole, that rooms woild not be ready til after 4?
We got there at 3:55 PM. I waited in line 53 minutes, to be told there was no room available yet. Then I saw the "other line".... the people who had been told to check back at 4PM. That line was OVER 100 people long, and guess what? They were told that no rooms were ready yet! Those poor people waited 2+ hours in line and still no rooms. We went to dinner off premises and came back at 7PM. We still waited 10 - 15 minutes in line to be told "Your room just became available"!
7PM and my room is just now AVAIALABLE? OK, I didn't make a fuss, but trust me, corportate will be hearing from me tomorrow.
Side notes: There may or may not be internet access. I called the place and was told there was no in room internet access. BTW, why would there not be, in this day and age in a brand new resort? Seems ludicrous to me. Byt then, today, before checking out I saw a guest services book that saud check with the desk to get a wireless access kit. So, who knows?
Towels are provided for the pool area. So are floatation devices for the kids. At the pool area I just happened to notice that a Hot Dog was SIX BUCKS! Now maybe it was a combo; I don't know. But $6 for a hot dog? Yikes.
Overall, this was a nice place to stay. Shopping is very close by. LOTS of shopping. We also ate a a nice place 1.5 miles from the resort called Smuggler's Cove ( make a right out of the resort, go 1.5 miles, and it is on the right ).
I give it 3 out of 5 stars. I might have given it 4 but the check in was SO BAD that I had to knock a star off just for that. And, I would say that 2 nights is plenty here. I heard other people saying the same thing. Really, there is not a lot to do onsite, in the winter. Maybe summer is better. On the plus side, Camelback Ski area is in plain view from the hotel.
