Looking for a possible thankgiving getaway and a brand new Great Wolf Lodge is opening in the Poconos it looks perfect. Looks like there are several, has anyone been to one.

We just moved from MA to DE and since we are not seeing family for Thanksgiving we thought we may try a little getaway. This place looks perfect.

Any reviews would be very helpful - tia

We've been to the one in the Wisconsin Dells. Will you have kids with you? I would recommend it if you do, not so much if it is just adults.

We found the room size to be HUGE, and the indoor water park was a lot of fun.

If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to help. :)

We've been to the one in the Dells as well - just two adults. We enjoyed it. Had a room with the fireplace which was really nice.

There is one here in Kansas City, and I have not been, but friends have and love it. I do recall when they first opened they had coupons either in the paper or by mail. I think it was by mail because the Kansas City Star is the most left of the left politically and don't even try to hide it, so I don't read their paper at all anymore.

My friends said this: You have open access to the pools and slides etc until pretty late at night. Also the day you check out you can still swim all day that day too. There is diving, tubes etc... Obviously that big one you are probably seeing during construction from the inside to outside pool is probably closed if you live in cooler climates. It has been closed in KC during winter.

I hope that helps.

Oh, and book right now if you can to get a chance of being able to get a room on Thanksgiving!

Oh yes sorry, its me dh and dd's ages 11 and 9. They love to swim and love water parks as well as hiking and whatever the area has to offer.

Thanks all - I didn't realize they were so popular! Its not disney but its also just 2 + hours away!

Your kids are the perfect ages for it! Go ahead and enjoy! :)

We have been to the one in Sandusky, OH twice. The kids love it and are asking to go back. We got the kids cabin that has a cabin inside for the kids.

I asked this question over the weekend about the one in PA -

We're actually considering going w my Brother, SIL and her 2 kids (and our 4 yo and baby - yikes) the sunday night and monday night before thanksgiving.

It looks like a lot of fun - i'll post a review if I make it there.

I made a reservation a few hours ago to go next weekend. I'll let you know how it is!! It looks great and DS is so excited. We got the kid camp suite for $229 (came to $249 with tax). If you click on "specials" on the website, some different codes come up.

For those that have been, I'm curious about the restaurants..are they reasonably priced? I'll probabably bring a few snacks and drinks with us since they have a fridge and microwave in the room.

Reasonably priced restaurant? :rotfl2: But the food is decent and the waterpark is faboo so it's worth it.

I'm so indecisive. Now I'm debating on booking for Friday night too so we can stay the entire weekend. Hmmmmmm

Check with some others too but....I've got friends who went with their families on 2 separate occasions to the new Great Wolf Lodge in Va. & they where telling me about their trips (because we're thinking of going) both said that a one night's stay was all they needed. Playing the day they arrived & the next day when they checked out of their rooms was enough. They said they couldn't see spending more time there than that.

We. too, are excited and want to make reservations for the new one in the Poconos!!!
We have friends that have been to the one in virginia and they raved about it!!! Cannot wait to try this one. PLEASE post a review once you get back!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!

Good point, I am going to do some more research on things in and around the area that are open in November. I know we will do some exploring and maybe some short hiking if available.

We need some famliy downtime so even relaxing in the room/lobby playing board games sounds great right now! I am looking at the family fireplace room - or maybe one of the kid cabin rooms.

Good point. I decided to go with Dorney Park on Friday night for the Halloween thing and then get to Great Wolf around 1 (that's when you can start using the waterpark even if your room isnt ready). I live about 3 - 3.5 hours from Great Wolf, so I didn't want to drive there Saturday then drive home Sunday so we will make a weekend out of the area :flower:

We also took snacks for the room. The kids were always starved after we went swimming. We took the single serve pouches of mac and cheese that we could make in the microwave. We also took some breakfast items and then we only had to pay for one meal at the restaurant. The one in Sandusky had board games that you could borrow but you had to play them in the lobby. They also had a craft session and a bed time story that were fun too.

Whoever goes to the Pocono one first please let me know. We're planning on going in February (good mid-winter break) and I'm curious to hear everyone's opinions. It looks like a fun place for kids.

I booked the Pocono and will report but we aren't going till Thanksgiving. Summerluv, I would love to hear your experience if you please!!

We recently moved from MA to DE and neither DH or I are really looking forward to Thanksgiving without extended family so we booked. It will be totally weird being away at Thanksgiving but I think we will have fun.

I booked the family fireplace suite but now I am second gessing about the kid cabin. I want the fireplace though so I can't decide.

We will bring a cooler with stuff for the room and lots of games. We will do some hiking and exploring of the area as well as the waterparks.

I booked Wed - Sat so we can still have a home cooked Thanksgiving meal on Sunday.

I would highly recommend the Great Wolf Lodge! I went to the one in Williamsburg, VA for one night in August. I went with my DD11, DS12 and my parents. We arrived at 1 pm and we were able to check-in. We reserved a family suite with a fireplace (just because it has two tv's in the room!) The kids went straight to the waterpark and stayed there until about 9 pm.! Then the got up the next morning and went back to the waterpark until about 1 pm, when they finally had enough! We spent some time in the arcade before heading back home. It was well worth the money for the amount of time they were able to spend in the waterpark. There was also a nice outdoor pool, story time and craft activities for the kids. We did not eat at the restaurant, there was a Pizza Hut Express, and a "coffee shop". We did get something to eat at the snack bar in the waterpark. I would suggest to bring your own snacks to save a little money. Here are some pictures...

I will try to answer any general questions anyone might have.

Have fun!

Great pics!!

Do they offer life vests or should I bring my own? Also, do they allow "swimmies" in the pools do you know?
