Just rec'd call from DCL to upgrade to the Roy Disney suite for an add'l fee, of which I was willing to pay. It would actually sleep 8 people, but DCL would only allow 7 people. Unfortunately, I have 8 people in my party, so I had to decline. And my hopes were so high. Oh well, guess I should be happy I get to cruise at all. Someone out there is going to get a call now.

Too bad for you.... if it will sleep 8 why are only 7 allowed? :(

4nana - All I know is that she told me that due to Coast Guard guidelines only 7 people were allowed in the room.

josierac -- We are currently booked in Cat 3, and don't get me wrong, I'm very happy about it. We went Cat 3 on our 3-day cruise Sep 2000 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was just wanting the Roy Disney Suite mainly because my mom is going and I want her to be treated like royalty.

The ships must consider things other than space available for sleeping. The number of people assigned per lifeboat for example is a law that must be adhered to. Also the number allowed on board for dinner seating, etc. would have to be considered. Too bad you had to pass it up :(

CarolAnnK --- I'm not arguing with you. Just curious question: We've been booked with this same amount of people all along, but for the amount of people on lifeboat for Cat 1 -- could that be because we'd be taking 3 people from Cat 6 and putting in that room with us, and they just don't have that much room left for that particular lifeboat due to the current ressies?

What a bummer, PaintBallBusters.... :( I was hoping you'd get it and get chummy with the people in Walt's suite! Then you could introduce me and they might have let me play that grand piano! LOL I play Chopsticks SO much better on a grand ;) I wish they'd just say it sleeps 7 and leave it at that.... hmph! LOL

Thanks for your vote, ZooMommy. I do, however, understand about the lifeboat situation. I'd hate to be the one they vote to stay on the ship because there wouldn't be enough room for me on the lifeboat, though. LOL!

All of my DCL literature says the room sleeps 7. I never thought 8 would be allowed. It's kind of like trying to get them to allow 5 in a sleeps 4 room.....even if one is an infant in a crib, they aren't going to allow it.

Awww, PaintBB, you could get in OUR lifeboat; we'd make room for you! :) Besides, the captain is supposed to go down with the ship, not a paying guest! LOLOL

So sorry to hear you had to pass this up. You are correct that there are sleeping spaces for 8 people in the Cat 1 suites. I had no idea they wouldn't allow anyone to utilize all those spaces. Bummer. Why have them if you can't use them?
If it makes you feel any better, I don't believe you get treated and more royally in the Cat 1 suites...at least we were not treated royally in the Walt suite on the Wonder a couple weeks ago. Of course I have nothing to compare treatment to, but I didn't feel we got any "royal" treatment. (at least not more than other suite guests)
So sorry you had to pass it up, but you'll be happy in the Cat 3, I'm sure. ;)

That's too bad, Paintballbusters. I'd love to say in that suite. We are on a wait list for a category 3 on 8/24 but I'm not too hopeful. Has anyone had any experience with wait lists? I'm wondering how often people are successful in getting what they want.

KAMLEM -- Don't give up hope yet. Just 3 days before our last cruise, we got a call from DCL upgrading us from a Cat 4 to a Cat 3. That's what got us hooked on the Cat 3. When I first booked this cruise, since a Cat 1 or Cat 2 wasn't available at the time, I requested that I be put on the waitlist if one does become available for our entire party of 8. It doesn't always work out but you can always hope.

We had the Walt suite last Aug and had 7 in our party--wanted to take a friend for my son and they said--only 7. We have a cat 4 for June 22 and were on waitlist for cat1-2-3----no luck... I'm sure the cruise will be great, but we are disappointed. You get spoiled. Beth

BethA -- What was the reason you couldn't put 8 in the room? I don't understand why they would fix it to sleep 8 people but yet only allow 7. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't know. We could have had 8 easily, but they said the room is only for 7 people--no other explanation. There are enough beds for 8--we didn't get it either? Beth

I just checked the DCL Website under 'Rates, Dates, and More' and then at 'Stateroom Descriptions'. They show a Royal Suite as the top category. It also says it sleeps five, but when I read the description, it lists seven beds.

Wonder why it's different on the website?

Here's a link to the page:

Royal Suite

The two bedroom suite says it sleeps five also, but the description just says 'two bedrooms' and 'queen size beds'.

hth

In the Royal Suites there is a queen bed in one bedroom, two lower bunks and two upper bunks in the second bedroom, and a queen murphy bed in the library. To me that's enough for 8. I'm stumped as to why they would have enough beds and not allow that number of people. (especially when often there are at least a couple kids in that mix) The Lifeboat theory doesn't really make sense to me either. Is one person really going to make all that much difference in an emergency? (ok, two if you count both royal suites)
Oh well, I'm still sorry you didn't get to take the Roy suite. What about booking it and a cat 7 or lower even...then those in the other stateroom can "visit".;)

Good Luck and don't let anything ruin your trip!

Lisa:)
