After reading some of the posts here tonight on lower rental rates I tried my dates (10/29 - 11/5) on both Dollar and National tonight... got a rate of $105/week ($142 with taxes and fees) for a full size car at Dollar using the MAG code!! I have an upgrade coupon so had priced a compact and compacts, intermediates and full sizes were all the same price (well actually there was $0.87 difference!!).

Hard to beat that rate.

Best I could do on National was $207/week. Think we will be using Dollar this time.

Congratulations for the great rate. I puched in my numbers too and my rate is $60 cheaper going with Dollar vs National. I'm a huge National fan, but this will switch me over if National's rates don't start dropping as my Oct. 20th date gets closer. For a 12 day rental National is $334 and Dollar is $272.

Where did you get the free upgrade code? Thanks...

I did get a great rate today using the BJ's 10% off of a full size rental for my October trip (10 days) - $265 including taxes. Alamo and National are well over $100.00 more.
I could not use the MAG code and the BJ's coupon together, however.

I have a coupon for a 1 class upgrade from when I signed up for Fastlane...they sent me 2. I usually go with National, just because the kids like to pick the car on the EA...but for this price difference, they will just have to be suprised. I have always been happy with Dollar, good service, clean cars and generous upgrades....and with Fastlane there isn't a long line wait....and for this price I think we will go with them....I'll keep watching National, but doubt if they will beat this rate.

I tried using the mag code for 10/22-11/1, and it gives me a compact for $138 a week. How did you get $105?

My total comes to $301 with the discount

And who is allowed to use it?? Is that the only code you are using?
The best I can do is 189 for 8 days for a compact
Can anyone help me?
Oct 30- Nov 6

thanks so much

Well when I rechecked my rates for the same date they have gone back up (over $200/week base rate for full size before MAG discount)...glad I booked when I did. Don't know if it was a fluke or what, but the base rates were really low and using the MAG code gives you a flat 10% off of any rate. (BTW, the MAG discount does not show up until the last page before you confirm the reservation for some reason....all the other Dollar codes show up on the first rate page)
The MAG code came from some national magazine ads and is available to anyone. No coupon needed.

The best rate I could find now is using the VFGET code. also available to anyone ($119/week for a compact...not great, but not bad either).

Just keep watching...the fluky rates seem to appear spontaneously on Dollar fairly often, but they never last long. Always be sure to try Dollar using no codes at all because sometimes that is the best rate (you can always apply the MAG discount to their rate)...hope something good turns up for you.

Oh,oh! I need to modify our reservation ,since, we are arriving a day later. When I tried to modify it , it went up $100  . I guess well just have to sacrifice and spend an extra day at Disney ;) .

If anyone gets the MAG code to work again, please let us know!!

SB in KY - Thank you for posting the MAG code we got a full size for a week for $136 tax included. You are grreat!!:goodvibes

Glad to help bridgettesmom...nothing better than these boards for sharing bargain info!! I am still psyched about our rate for a full sized in Oct/Nov too.

Do you know when the codes come out for January-February? All of the ones listed on Mousesavers expire before then.. I am looking forward to getting things booked and finalized!
Thanks!

Seems like when the codes come out is one of life's great mysteries!! Dollar and National are better about releasing codes than some companies, I think. I would guess at least mid October before you see codes extended past the end of the year....but that is just a guess. We went in Jan last year and I was pretty antsy before they came out. If all else fails make a back up reservation now and change it as the rates go down.

If you are really brave you could try a Priceline bid now and hope for the best. But if you get it then you are locked in to that rate (prepaid).
