Hi everyone!

We have a short 2 day trip planned in June for my son's 7th birthday. This is a surprise for him so I really can't ask him where he would like to eat :rolleyes1

We are only going to MK and Epcot, I wanted to do a sit down dinner on Friday, his actually birthday. What would you suggest would be the best for his age and that would do a nice birthday celebration for him? at either parks..

Has anyone celebrated their birthday there? thanks!! :thumbsup2

Well, in MK, I would suggest Crystal Palace which has Pooh characters or taking the monorail over to Chef Mickey's (or you could walk from MK). Both of those cater to kids. We had my son's 9th brithday at Chef Mickey's. If he likes comfort food, Liberty Tree Tavern is basically a Thanksgiving dinner. If you are okay going on the monorial, O'Hana is another one I really like and is fun for kids. We did my daughter's birthday there a few years ago and she loved it. I ordered a small cake when I checked in, and they brought it out and all sang Happy Birthday. (Did that at LTT too, at Chef Mickey's they will bring you a free cupcake).

At Ecpot, Garden Grill has characters in a revolving type restaurant. And Coral Reef is generally very fun for kids with that tank. San Angel Inn is neat since its like being outside by a river at night and if you get riverside, its fun to watch the boats go by.

My son was 7 on our last trip and we went to the Hoop de Doo. We had a seat in the balcony (we had Cat 2) and at the end of the show my son turned to me and said " I want to come here for my birthday, you know, on the day, and sit down there (pointing to the front of the stage)". This was hands down his favorite meal of the trip and he also loved the way the performers singled out the people who were celebrating their birthday/anniversary.

This was the first time we had been to the Hoop De Doo. Before the trip, his pics for a favorite meal (we all got one) was a tie between Sci Fi and Chef Mickeys. Have fun deciding!

I had forgotten about Hoop Dee Doo! That one is so fun for kids that age. Its a short boat ride from the MK.

We celebrated my son's 7th birthday in October at Teppan Edo. It may not be the first place that springs to mind, but he had a blast. The hibachi chef made a big fuss about his birthday and my son really enjoyed her cooking display and all the jokes and tricks. They brought him out a chefs hat to wear and and a special birthday cupcake. It was one of most enjoyable meals of the trip for the rest of the family as well. :thumbsup2

I brought my 7 year old son to the Whispering Canyon at Fort Wilderness Lodge. Very fun for kids! Loud and rowdy. Wherever you choose, have fun

ooh.. that may be fun! Have you done the Mickey's BBQ one? which one is better?

I've heard Hoop Dee Do is great, but if you can't swing that, Garden Grill at Epcot is fun and has good character interaction! The restaurant revolves slowly. In MK, Crystal Palace for sure! Have fun!

now I am thinking it may be better to just stay in MK and not travel to the hoop dee do.
We are going back in November for 8 days, I think we will do the hoop dee do then...

so if you could pick only one place in MK.. what would YOU pick for a birthday dinner for a 7 year old? CP, Tony's or something else?

Also, I have seen some great cakes out there.. does the place that you eat at make the cake or does it come someplace else?

thank you! :thumbsup2

Unless he like pooh bear and friends I wouldn't recommend anywhere inside MK for a birthday dinner for a seven year old boy. Chef Mickeys is a quick hop on the monorail, and if he isn't a character kind of kid Whispering Canyon is a quick boat ride away - both are a ton of fun, both enjoyed when my DS was seven.

I agree. Epcot would give you much better choices for his birthday. My kids loved Teppan Edo for their birthday. they got sung to and a chef hat with their name and birthday ice cream.

As someone else suggested, Garden Grill is also a good choice if he likes characters. The revolving restaurant is a nice touch for kids.

My kids also LOVE the German Biergarden. The band comes out and they dance and dance. They also announce thier birthday, which is fund and and entire restaurant sings to them.

I would go to Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary. It has been my sons favorite since he was 4 and he is now 16. We went t here last yeqr for his birthday and even though he was older they brought him a cup cake and sang. The food is very good and a hyge selection for the buffet

I have seen reviews that the WC is great, but the food is not so great.. have you eaten there? what are your thoughts.. my DH loves ribs.. and I heard they were very dry....

Chef Mickey's would be a quick ride over... and I bet they would make a big deal out of it too..

thank you all for the suggestions!!!

I recently asked my DS (now 17) what his favorite thing about WDW is... (he has been 10 times)....

It surprised me when he said "Teppan Edo"....

Teppan Edo (formerly Teppan Yaki) has been a family tradition for us....

I think it's quite the "GUY" thing....being Asian, and fire, etc.....

So I would recommend Teppan Edo for your young man's bday....

My DS even enjoys shopping in Japan...and even bought a BOOK in the Gift shop below... (How to Speak Japanese!)

Have a Magical Visit!

We do like Teppan Edo, we ate there last time but I think we are going to save that for our November trip...

Since we are only going to be there for 2 short days in June.. MK on Fri and Epcot in Sat.. I was thinking for his b-day dinner staying close to MK.. SOOO
I think I have choosen Whispering Cannon... :thumbsup2
NOW.. thank you again for all of your suggestions.. and what are your thoughts on WC as we have never eaten here before.

What about T-Rex Cafe at DTD.
My 7 year old son loves dinosaurs and this is the one place he begged to go.

We were there for my dd's 8th birthday and her favorite meals on her actual birthday were Cape May breakfast (Goofy was wonderful and helped her conduct us all singing the Happy Birthday song) and she also really loved Biergarten in Epcot. They were so sweet there, she got a card from them with signatures from many who worked there. They also gave her a gingerbread cookie and a Tinkerbell light (from the cups). SHe also really enjoyed hearing the band :)
