My cat, Guinness, came home last night after being lost for 6 weeks! She's an indoor cat and she got out one night as my husband was bringing a large box in the house (we didn't even know she was gone till the next morning).

She's in great shape for an animal that's been living outside for so long. Her fur is still soft and smooth (albeit very dirty!), and her eyes are bright and shiny. She's lost a few pounds, but the vet doesn't feel that it will be a problem. Her disposition is fantastic! She's been purring non stop since she got home and just loves being held (good thing... I don't think that her paws will touch the floor for quite sometime!).

This is the best thing that's happened to us since our daughter was born! It's amazing how much animals become part of your family, and how much they mean to you. Her absence was heartbreaking, and her homecoming is incredible!

Just had to share!!! I can't keep the smile off my face today!!!

Six weeks?

That's great! I know how stressful it can be trying to find an indoor cat that has slipped out.

Congratulations.

I am so happy for you. Thank goodness she is so healthy, and doing well after such a long time away. Great news

Wow that's great news!!!! Pets are very much a part of your family. I'm glad your cat returned home healthy and happy.

Erin,
That is great news!! :teeth: I know I would be beside myself if that was my furbaby. Actually when I was like 5 we had just moved to a new house and our cat ran away. We saw Tiger a year later in a cemetary as we were driving by, so my dad stopped to try and catch him, but Tiger was too wild by then and I guess didn't remember us.

Woo Hoo for your furbaby finding her way home!!!

An amazing, wonderful story to start my Friday! I'm so happy for you and your family - especially Guinness. Our indoor cat slipped out once for a few hours and I was heartsick, I can only imagine what 6 weeks must have done to you. Keep that smile on! :Pinkbounc

That is GREAT news! I'm glad kitty is home and in good shape! :Pinkbounc

That's such great news! I am so happy your cat came home and it's fine. I think I would be in the same situation as you if our indoor cat had been missing that long. Our's tries to escape every so often, but we've always been able to get him back in. :D

That is TERRIFIC! I know, we've had some scares with Ren & Cinder, our two indoor cats. If we have an outside door open for a few minutes, Ren will go on a small "adventure" into the garage or pool area, but it's not for very long!

Just a thought -- if she's been outside for 6 weeks, you might want to take her to see your vet to have her checked out. There's probably all kinds of things she may have gotten into and you'd want to check for injuries, cuts, etc. Also diseases, possibly. And, if she's not "fixed" maybe she had a little "fun" while she was gone...

Welcome home, Guiness!!

That is great news. I am glad your cat Guiness made it back home. :)Six weeks is such a long time to be worrying. I bet your cat is extremely happy to be home and well as you. We have two indoor cats and one is always trying to escape. The one time she did it was in the winter and she was not crazy about the snow. Our other cat you could leave the door open and would not take off.

Wow, that's great, you must be so happy and relieved! Our cat (who is indoor/outdoor) once didn't come home for 2 days, it was the middle of winter and it was freezing! This was about 8 years ago. Anyhow, he finally strolled back home after 2 days, and we were so happy, we were frantic, out looking for him, asking if anyone had seen him, etc. I can't imagine how 6 weeks would have felt! Give your kitty a big hug!:D

That’s great! You must have been so surprised and thrilled to see her. I find it amazing how they can find their way home (especially when they are indoor cats). My cats getting out is one of my worst nightmares!

That is great news! I'm so happy that your baby found her way home and is ok now.

I had one of mine get out years ago. She was gone for 4 days. I searched frantically to no avail....until on the 4th day a neighbor happened to mention seeing a cat hanging around at the back of the house (small apt bldg) late at night. Apparently she was SO terrified, she'd been hiding all day and trying to get home in the middle of the night. I left my bedroom window and screen open that night, and sure enough, there she was on my bed when I awoke the next morning :)

Glad your story has a happy ending too, Erin :)

That IS great news!!! The Cat-Fairy must have sprinkled Pixie Dust on her;) !!

Thanks guys! I have the DOPIEST grin on my face (it alternates with teariness!)! The absolute MAGIC part of this is that we are moving in 3 weeks and I was convinced that we'd never get her back. My DH actually said that he was glad that we were moving so that we wouldn't spend the next 10 years staring out the window looking for her constantly.

Our dog, Killian (we're Irish, we like beer!), was outside last night and just started barking. I went to see what was wrong and there she was! She wouldn't come to me at first (I actually wound up wandering the neighborhood in a tank top (braless... I was ready for bed  ) and pj pants barefoot chasing after Guinness... My neighbors got quite an eyeful! The best part was, Guinness going into a storm drain and me, laying in the middle of the street, yelling "GUINNESS!!! C'mere sweetie!" A policeman on patrol pulled up to a lady lying in the street yelling for Guinness... FABULOUS!!! At any rate, I would have done it naked if I had too... she's worth it!!!

BTW... she's been to the vet and everything is fine. She has some scratches, but he doesn't think that they are from another animal... she probably just got caught in some underbrush. She's on some antibiotics and they de-ticked her and applied some tick and flea stuff. The bloodwork came back fine... all in all... a happy ending!!! I doubt she'll ever go near the door again!!!

Erin :D

YAY!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy for you! I can sort of relate. When we were in Fla last summer, our petsitter left a window open and one of my cats popped the screen out and was missing. We almost came home! I was devastated!!! Luckily he was found a few hours later, but I was soooo upset!

What nice news!!!!

Holly

What great news, Erin!!!!! So very happy for you all. What a nice story. A {hug} for you and your furbaby. :)

Erin, that is wonderful news!!! I am so happy for you and your family :) Give that furbaby a hug for me :)

SIX weeks? How amazingly incredible!!!

My kitty got out once for 3 weeks, and I had given her up for dead.

One day, she just sauntered in through the back door, and I swear, I didn't even think it was her at first. I was so sure she was long gone.

Now if I open an exterior door, she runs and hides. I don't think she had a good time. Came home with a big hole in her cheek, but vet fixed her right up.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What a happy day!
