Great news - Covid test in advance

For us, our insurance will pay for the test no matter where it was taken or the reason. They are even starting to pay for a certain number of home test a month.

We depart on June 4th so 3 days before the rule changes. I’m torn about it but at the same time I’m kind of glad. A friend went on a cruise last month. She got her Covid test and it was positive so she had it taken again the next morning before they left in case it was a false positive. The test was negative so she went on the cruise. When she got home she had pneumonia so you have to wonder which was the false positive or negative.

I know they have false test at the port but I figure there is more stories of positive test with a retake that is negative.
It’s a real inconvenience if your at WDW before your cruise and DCL knows that. They also know out of PC many of the cruisers are combining the parks with a cruise. They aren’t stupid they know they can make money off it.

I kinda liked the testing at the port. Yes, it's stressful but it's more accurate since at least if you do it before hand 2 days, you could be negative 2 days ago. Yet, you might be positive at the port and never know. Thus spreading it around to others.

Of course they are. The same way they get a cut on excursions they don’t run.
PCR testing for unvaccinated Under 5 costs about $100. UPS Next Day Early AM is about $90. So almost the entire cost of the test is shipping. The lab takes the rest. Disney gets zero.

Yes but the rapids are not $75 and that will be the test the majority of cruisers will need.

For me it's the *** pain of now having to go find a place to do a test while in Orlando trying to enjoy a few days at the parks ahead of the cruise. Now I have to get the family in an under to a testing location. Massively annoying. Just get rid of testing if you aren't going to require masks. Like it's so stupid. Tests won't catch everything and you aren't requiring people to wear masks. Just require people to have at least 3 shots. Done.

You don't have to do anything. You can test at the port like you always did. It just costs money now.

My home airport and Mco charge 65.000. Not a huge difference from DCL. I’m not sure where people get free tests with short turn around times.
CVS does the tests for free. Well, actually, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is picking up the tab. Tests take about 30 minutes to get results

There isn't. I promise. Disney is not profiting from COVID testing. They hate this.
I might be a bit biaised. Our provincial gov put our « free » rapids in « select » places like Walmarts. The Walmarts then turned around and said « those are curbside only… & you need to spend a certain $ for curbside….” ALL the “venues” are monopoly type businesses and they’re all looking to profit, even off of free…

You don't have to do anything. You can test at the port like you always did. It just costs money now.
oh. I missed that. hmm. well that makes life a little easier. maybe I'll just get one Sunday before or do it late Saturday night now that I don't have to worry about it being in place on time/freaking out about not having results in time.

Great news! What Disney provided for free you can now pay for. Isn’t that super!
Well, it was a perk offered to lure people back to cruising. People have returned. No need for this perk anymore. Just like other perks cruise lines offer from time to time, free alcohol, tips included, on board credits...free or discounted trip insurance......when they no longer need perks to lure cruisers, they go away.
Still working for me. photo.png

I still can’t believe that Disney fully refunds the cost of a cruise if you test positive for Covid at the dock? I thought that was what insurance was for. I think their handling of Covid has been more than generous. They were paying for a test that, if positive, actually lost them money? Everyone turned away was lost revenue for that cruise IMHO, not meant to be argumentative.

Yeah, none of this was done out of generosity. It was pure self-interest, in an effort to restart a business that was bleeding money.

We sailed on RCCL from Nassau last summer. They provided pre-debarkation testing on the ship, at their expense, so that passengers could fly home. That included PCR testing, if required. If a test you took onboard (for any reason) turned up positive, they would unload you at the next port, fly you home in a private aircraft with an attending nurse, and arrange private transport from the airport to your home. All at their expense. No joke. That was their posted policy, and there were first-hand accounts confirming it.

That wasn't done out of a sense of generosity either.

In fairness, I did have to pay for my own pre-boarding test. But I needed that to get into the country anyway, and IIRC it was good for 5 days.

Not sure why some are so mad about this. This is the way pretty much all the other cruise lines are doing it. Disney was the only exception. Also, most insurance will cover tests at CVS, Walgreens and other testing places. If you can afford a Disney cruise, I think you should be able to afford insurance (but yes, I know everyone has different situations, so please do not be insulted if i made light of how you are situated. I mean no harm at all). I would also think, again given the huge cost of a Disney cruise, it wouldn’t put most people out a few hundred bucks more to test if you are willing to spend the money on Disney. You can save way more money by sailing on another line, but I think we all choose Disney bc we love it.

In the end, this is better than finding out last minute you cant go. And yes, it does mess with travel plans, we too are traveling in a couple days early for the parks, and now we Have To find testing for our July cruise, so we loose some park time. I can deal with that, so long as I dont miss my cruise.

Not ideal, but nothing since Covid is, but not a bad move by Disney. Jusst aligning with the rest of the industry in the US.
