Hi Everyone,

About two weeks ago, I started a thread asking if it was true that Virgin now charge 50 quid for emergency exit seats, unfortunately the answer was yes.

BUT I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!! :teeth:

I called Virgin today to book my return seats and just as we were finishing the conversation, I asked the lady if it was true. She said that there was a £50 charge for these seats on all routes EXCEPT LONDON GATWICK - ORLANDO!!!!!

I hope this clarifies it for all those of you travelling with Virign in the near future.

That contradicts totally what Virgin told me last week, typical!!!

I don't think the exit seat allocation works as well now that twilight check-in isn't run by Virgin staff. You could almost guarantee an exit seat before if you did twilight, but now they just take your name down and it's a first come first served basis at the Virgin ticket desk the next day.

As for the charge, it's anybodys guess as to whether they will charge or not. The woman I spoke to last week was adamant that they would charge £50 for use of the exit seats on the flight to Orlando from Gatwick.

Oh well, it doesn't affect me anymore, we've upgraded to PE anyway!!!!

Bring it on!!

I think Virgins customer care must be run from a call centre in Bangladesh or somewhere! I've just had an e-mail reply saying exit seats are not released at twilight as there is a £50 charge. What is the latest truth?

I can confirm that exit seats are not bookable at twilight check in, this is because this service is now run by the airport and not Virgin staff.

You put your name on a list for exit seats and then they are allocated on a first come basis at the Virgin ticket desk the day of departure.

Whether they are charging is open to debate, I was informed they were on the Orlando flights but judging from the email on the other thread this is now incorrect.

Hope this helps

Do you know how would that work with seat allocations? Say you go along to Twilight check in and ask for exit seats. If they put your name on a list, do they then allocate you alternative seats in case you don't get the exit ones?

We usually do twilight check in as it saves a lot of time queuing on the day and with a large party (8) we like to sit together. We usually ask for 2 'extra leg room' seats as DH & BIL are both 6ft 4in. If the new arrangement only allows you to make a request, do you then have to go through all the queuing the next day to see if you have got your exit seats?

Maxine,
To be honest I don't really know how the system operates but I would guess that you are allocated standard seats, and then your request for exit seats is noted and if you're lucky and quick enough the next day, they will just transfer you to them.

I'm 6ft 3 and the exit seats has always been a life saver for me, apart from 1999, we have managed to get them every year since, even on flights to Europe.

However, having been informed by Virgin about the new procedure for exit seats at Twilight and also the possible charge, we instead opted for Premium Economy this time, just to be on the safe side.

Twilight has no real benefit now apart from being able to get seats together (prebooking beforehand will negate this benefit) and avoiding the queue at check in (a good thing).

We are still staying over the night before in the Hilton though, seems just a perfect way to start your holiday and also gives you like another day.......!!!!

Not long now.....

Regards

Julian
