Okay --- I always drag my kids on this ride the 50 or 60 times I've been to WDW ... I have seen most, if not all or parts of all of the movies .... my goal is to have my kids watch all the movies shown on the ride .... (depending on the severity of the content .... my 15 yo still freaks out on that part of the ride when the Alien lurches down on you ... but I feel like over the years it was changed and it's less scary ... or I'm just plain used to it.

That being said, if anyone knows .... and you know who you are .... what are all the movies we are going to be watching before November, 2012 .... and the list includes:

??????
(it's gotta be compiled out there somewhere)pirate:

The movies represented in the Great movie Ride:

Casablanca
Mary Poppins
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Aliens
Fantasia
Footlight Parade
Tarzan
Clint Eastwood/John Wayne westerns (I recommend Outlaw Josie Wales and True Grit)
The Public Enemy
Singin' In the Rain

There's no way I would make my kids watch all those crappy movies. lol. I hate that ride. It's pointless to me.

Just to clarify it's Alien I beleive, not the sequel Aliens Though both are excellent and the distinction probably isn't important...watch them both. All four actually, they are all good (though 3 is my least favorite).

Thanks for the list -- those are the movies that are referenced in the actual ride right??? What about that awesome photo montage they do at the end of the ride ... I must say I don't like waiting in line (which I will not to get on) but I don't think the movies are "crappy" ... isn't that the whole point of the ride --- that these movies and/or actors represent the best of the best (well excluding that Whoopie Goldberg movie with her as a nun --- I like her but not that movie ... she was awesome in The Color Purple so I don't know why they show that Sister Act movie at the end) ... anyway,..... I want to know all of the movies, if any one knows...thanks so much

Josie Wales is great. Also the Man with no Name Trilogy is classic (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly).

And at 23 years old I still won't watch Alien and close my eyes during that part of the ride, so I don't blame your 15 year old. ;)

In the Westerns section of the ride, there is a sign that reads "Ransom Stoddard Attorney at Law." That is from "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." Great movie!

It is. I saw Aliens before Alien so the movies get lumped together (in my head) under the Aliens banner (which I liked a wee bit better).

Actually if you are looking for the films represented by the characters in the GMR you would need to watch one of the Eastwood films referenced above. Josie Wales is a completely different character.

Why did you post on this thread then? First of all, you don't like the ride. Second of all, if you read the first post, OP's kids have been on the ride many times. I, for one, would love to see the ride. We didn't get a chance to when we went last January, but hope to the next time we go (which, most likely, won't be until Jan. '14).

And really, crappy movies? The majority of them are loved by the majority of movie lovers...

I guess just a troll being a troll...

Mary Poppins
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Alien
Fantasia
Footlight Parade
Tarzan
The Searchers
The Public Enemy
Singin' In the Rain
The Wizard of Oz
Fixed.

As for the Clint Eastwood appearance in the ride, as far as I can tell it isn't a tribute to any one specific movie, but rather simply Eastwood's influence in the Western genre. As previously mentioned, either The Outlaw Josie Wales or The Man with No Name trilogy works in the capacity the ride portrays him (though Unforgiven is my personal favorite Eastwood Western).

There's no way I would make my kids watch all those crappy movies.
This is satire, right?

The Great Movie Ride is for people who can appreciate classic movies where plot and dialog where important to the success of the movie. Many young people hate those movies because they are "boring" or the special effects are lame.

I have a co-worker that will not watch any movies that came out before 1982 (the year he was born). Very narrow view of what is a good movie and what entertains him because it has a lot of CGI or special effects.

Anyway, for anyone interested in the ending montage for The Great Movie Ride the Wiki on it lists all the movies from the current montage.

I'd love to say I've seen them all but a few have slipped by me over the years. I guess that should be on my bucket list.

That is one of my favorite rides. I love the old movies. I hope they don't change it to the newer modern movies with the poor acting.

I left out the Wizard of Oz?? What the hell man? I thought I had put it in first. My brain not functioning. I didn't recall them actually mentioning "The Searchers" during the ride...but as we've seen with Oz, the brain seems broken today. Some sources cite The Searchers and some don't.

OP, you can find a list of the movies in the finale here (which does cite The Searchers IN the ride, but another wiki page does not): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Great_Movie_Ride_films

Calling all modern movies poor is just as narrow-minded and short-sighted as assuming all older movies are bad. The fact is, all of cinema history is filled with good and bad movies. Quality isn't exclusive to any era.

While I honestly can't remember if it's mentioned on-ride, I think it's one of the movie trailers played in the queue, all of which make up the movies represented on the ride.

I agree. I never said the above. I said that I hope they don't put in modern movies that have poor acting.

because it is one of the original rides we go every year (if we go to Hollywood Studios) as a kind of tradition thing. popcorn:: might buy the films then watch them just before going on holiday.

Ah! Great sleuthing there! Another hi five for you :thumbsup2
