I remember hearing somewhere that they recently changed or updated the Great Movie Ride? Does anyone know if this is true and what changes were made?

We just got back and after going on "The Great Movie Ride" twice, once in each lane(1st ganster one, second cowboy one), I did not see anything new. The ONLY possible change I may have seen was at the movie part at the end, Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck were added in "Amagedden(sp?), because I think that is a fairly recent movie, but I may be wrong.

I mentioned to DH that is was suppose to be updated and he said that the refurbishment was probably only to clean up the props at the ride has been running for along time.

It was a rehab of the same basic ride. The "Bank Robbery" and "Chicago Ganland" areas (where your guide leaves and is replaced by the bad guy" were cleaned and repainted. The Oz Area also got a fresh coat of paint.

My boys ages 9,8 &6 liked the cowboy.western one better. Once you enter the Chinese theater you will have a choice of lines, for us the line to the right was the cowboy/western one. We only learned this after being in the other line the first time we rode.

As on our second ride we were seated right behind the CM driver, which make the ride very exciting. The boys were really loved it. Although my oldest hid his head and covered his ears during the Alien part.LOL!

Here is a quote from www.wdwmagic.com
The Great Movie Ride reopened Sunday from its recent rehab. New exterior paint, new interior paint, lighting, digital sound system, and new CM spiel. Reports so far indicate the new spiel is a worthwhile update, and is not the rumored "Jungle Cruise type" style.

The two 'different' ride themes actually travel the same route, just stopping in slightly different spots to do the CM swap and short action scene. Interesting concept, two themes same ride.

Here is some more info.

How do you get inline for the different endings? ie Gangster vs. cowboy. Which one is better??

When you first enter the line splits; the right side goes to the cowboys and the left side goes to the gangsters. Neither is better than the other, just different. The rest of the ride is the same.

Don't stress too much about which line you get in, especially when there's only one line. When you get inside the ride doors, quietly tell the CM seating guests which scene you want to see. I've never yet had them do anything but smile and seat me in the proper car.

Remember though -- most guests don't know the difference, so be a nice quiet camper while asking so you don't reveal anything!

For those who aren't as familiar and are going through with small children, both scenes involve firing guns. The Western scene involves an explosion, and real fire, and the Gangster or "Chicago" scene involves heavier gunfire and racing getaway cars with squealing tires.

We just got back from a quick weekend trip. Wasn't the alien moved also? He used to come out of the ceiling. Now he . . . . okay, no spoilers here, but I thought it was different.

No, there have always been both. The one you're hinting at will not work or not be used for long periods of time, but I don't know why.

As far as I can tell, the ride was tidied, the spiel changed slightly (the only thing I really noticed was that they've dropped the "two lovers wait for the very last time..." bit from Casablanca), and they've updated the ending montage. On reflection, it did seem as if the ride moved just a little faster, so maybe they've cut bits out of the spiels in many of the scenes, to shave minutes off and increase the turnover.

My son has been a big fan of the ride every since it opened. Like most people he tells me the changes were pretty much comestic with a few other minor changes here and there. Not much that you would even notice.
