Last October we had a horrible experience at the Kona Cafe (spoiled food, bad service closed kitchen, etc) and I wrote a letter to complain as we had used our dining credits for it. The Poly sent me a letter offering us free lunch again so we took them up on it today.

The lunch we had was fantastic. Our server was excellent and the quality of the food was first rate. Everything was comped except the tip and we had a wonderful time. It restored my faith in what had been one of our favorites.

We enjoyed the sticky wings, crab cakes, chowder and blu cheese salad. Then the Polynesian lunch plates with chicken, steak and mahi-mahi. My son had the teriyaki steak salad which was also excellent.

They changed the kids meals, now fries are by special request only. No more disney staples like chicken fingers (fried) and mac and cheese. I kind of miss them since our daughter eats very healthy at home and kind of wants to have "fun" food while on vacation. Baked fish and a dessert of granola and yogurt is not her idea of "fun" food. Oh well, she definately loved the ice cream sundae anyway;)

Just wanted to report my great lunch review since I had posted my bad review back in October. Thanks!

Thanks for the update. But did they change the Kona kids menu again? In March, there were the two 'total' meals, or the 'kids picks' options of mac & cheese or a hamburger or a hot dog.

Same menu, but our server said the "rules" were altered. Now, if you pick an option (hotdog, hamburger etc) and you get the salad as an appetizer then you must pay extra for the fries (by special request) or skip dessert. Sounds silly, right. I did not understand it at all, so we just said we would pay. My daughter had the salad w/ranch, hot dog and fries and the sundae. Our meal was comped but the check did have I think 1.75 for the fries added in in addition to the meal price.

My daughter is a healthy eater and normal weight (not that this should matter to anyone but our family) but geez...let them eat fries! :rolleyes1
