Hi everyone! :goodvibes

I thought it would be fun to cook/bake one of the WDW recipes with DBF this weekend. Has anyone had great success with any of them in particular? We've attempted the Strawberry Soup from 1900 PF, and it turned out a bit meh (chocolate perked it up a bit).

Any type of recipe suggestion (the easier, the better! :laughing:) would be appreciated!

Thanks! :flower3:

We did Strawberry Soup twice and it came out fantastic using the sour cream - used a recepie posted on these boards by Cheshire Figment (below).

Below is the original recipe for SS. The current recipe has yogurt in it.

DISNEY'S GRAND FLORIDIAN BEACH RESORT

STRAWBERRY SOUP

INGREDIENTS:

16 oz Strawberries (frozen variety, thawed with juice and pureed)
16 oz Sour Cream
1 Tbls Lemon Juice (frozen variety, reconstituted, not concentrated)
2 Tbls Vanilla Extract
3 oz Sifted Powdered Sugar (by cup measure)
1 Tbls Grenadine Syrup
2 oz Half-and-Half

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

Mix strawberries and sour cream, beat slowly until well mixed. While mixing, add grenadine, lemon juice, vanilla extract and sugar until a smooth consistency. Add half-and-half and mix for five seconds. Chill, shake well before serving. Fresh strawberry halves may be added as a garnish.

I've successfully done the cheddar cheese soup from Le Cellier and the coconut curry chicken soup from Boma. I've also done the french toast loaf from Main Street Bakery several times with great results (sadly, it's no longer available so my "at home" version is all I will ever get again).

We made the cream cheese mash from Le Cellier and the french toast loaf from MSB. Go to allears.net they have lots of recipes..

We did the Tonga Toast Recipe from Kona Cafe and It was easy and delicious got the recipe from allears.

1) I cannot attest to the food trials.
2) However, I did try to duplicate the single malt scotch.
. . . the first 4-6 tasting attempts seemed close
. . . after 5-6 more attempts I was sure I had it correct
. . . the next 3 shots showed I had indeed gotten it right
3) Gee, I so love trying new recipes.

I have made the Flame Tree BBQ sauce and it was fantastic - I got it from one of the Disney cookbooks I purchased -Made the lime dressing from Ohana and it was excellent - I have also made the LeCellier Cheddar Cheese soup - it was good but definately not the same. :)

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!! :thumbsup2

This recipe definitely sounds a bit more interesting than the one we used (more sour cream based, plus the grenadine syrup and vanilla extract). I bet this will have a lot more flavor! Thanks for sharing the recipe!! :goodvibes

Both of those soups sound like great ideas! DBF had really enjoyed the one from Boma in particular. I've never had the french toast loaf, but have heard great things. Thanks for the suggestions!! :)

I had looked on allears.net...and had gotten promptly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of fantastic-sounding items! I was hoping to narrow down the list - my other solution is to just work down the list alphabetically...I'd be eating Disney food for a long time :laughing:. Both those sound really good, I love the mashed potatoes at LC! Thanks!! :goodvibes

We did the Tonga Toast Recipe from Kona Cafe and It was easy and delicious got the recipe from allears.

I'd seen this recipe in the Delicious Disney cookbook I bought for DBF awhile back. This was how it was extremely easy to convince him to go to Kona Cafe for breakfast :laughing:. I'm pretty sure he'd be game for attempting this one at home! Thanks!! :)

:rotfl: Such dedication to perfection!! And I'm definitely not opposed to WDW recipes of the drink variety! Thanks for the idea! :thumbsup2

Oooh I love the sauce/dressing ideas!! Sounds like that would be more versatile beyond one meal (also, yes, I do love the appeal of an "add to bowl and stir" recipe!). Too bad the soup wasn't the same as in LC...guess we'll just have to go back to Disney to get our favorites! Thanks for the ideas! :goodvibes

1) Always a big problem trying to duplicate Canadian recipes.
2) You can add
. . . a (this)
. . . a (that)
. . . a (something else)
3) Most people forget the "eh" thing (makes all the difference).

we used the macadamia nut pancake recipe and macadamia nut butter, it was fantastic!
I also used the macadamia nut crusted mahimahi recipe, it was delicious

I've made quite a few of the recipes from the WDW cookbooks - most recently was the puffed French Toast. So yummy! I've also made the Chateaubriand, Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, Parmesan mashed potatoes, and a few others I can't recall right now.

Everything I've made has turned out pretty tasty - I'll probably be making the cheddar cheese soup again soon.

I really don't think you can go wrong with most of them - most of the recipes have complete ingredient lists and complete directions.

Three that we've made and found delicious were
1) Warm Chocolate Lava Cake - from Ireland during F&W.
2) Heirloom Tomato Salad - from USA during F&W
3) Braised Beef Short Ribs - from Chefs de France

All are super yummy and easy.:goodvibes

I made the Main Street Bakery Cinnamon Rolls a few months ago....OMG, sooooo good! :worship: Not all that easy, but so worth it! I'm pretty sure I found the recipe on the dis

Disney Cinnamon Rolls

1/2 cup warm water
2 packages yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding
2 cups milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
8 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon

In small bowl, combine water, yeast, and sugar. Stir until dissolved. Set
aside.

In large bowl, mix pudding according to package instructions with milk. To
this add 1/2 cup melted butter, egg and salt. Mix well, then add yeast
mixture and blend well. Gradually add flour and knead until smooth. Place in
a very large greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double
in size. Punch down and let rise again for second time.

Roll dough on a very large floured surface. Dough should roll out to a long
rectangle, about 34 x 21 inches in size. Take the 1 cup of melted butter and
spread over entire dough surface, using a pastry brush.

In small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over top
of buttered dough. Roll dough up like a jelly roll.

Measure dough every 2 inches and cut with a knife. Take each roll into the
palm of your hand and gently pack the roll (this keeps it from coming apart
during baking).

Place each roll in a buttered baking pan and allow to rise in a warm place
for about 20 minutes. Bake in a preheated 350ª oven until golden brown in
color, about 15-20 minutes. Frost rolls while still warm.

Cream Cheese Frosting
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened (room temperature)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoon milk

In mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and mix until smooth. Spread on the
very warm rolls. Enjoy!

:laughing: And I thought all I needed to make sure I added was Moosehead beer!

Oooh sounds like someone had a bunch of macadamia nuts around! :laughing: I loved the pancakes and butter, that sounds like a fun idea! Thanks! :)

DW made the butternut squash bisque/soup featured at several places (V&A, Jiko's, Boma, etc) and it was fantastic. It takes a while because the squash needs to slow cook but it was very rich and creamy!

That soup sounds fantastic...my mom recently had the Butternut Squash soup at Bistro de Paris and has not stopped raving about it! I've never made soup before, this could definitely be worth a try. Thanks! :goodvibes

All of those sound great! Actually, that's the big part of the problem, everything sounds too good! Sounds like the Cheddar Cheese Soup in particular is a good recipe! Thanks! :goodvibes

Ohh those sound awesome! I am a big fan of chocolate lava cakes...I'm nervous about my ability to pull one of those off though...seems like it would require a certain level of finesse! Thanks! :goodvibes

Oh boy - if DBF sees this recipe I will be absolutely rolling out dough and sprinkling cinnamon! :rotfl: Me, I'd be eating that cream cheese frosting with a spoon! (Ok, I'd have some self-contro...no, no I wouldn't!) They definitely sound delicious!! Thanks! :)

We sometimes make Pooh's Breakfast Lasagna for our breakfast the day after Christmas. It's time consuming to make, but delicious and I think came out just as good as the buffet:

INGREDIENTS

Pastry cream

* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 6 egg yolks
* 1 1/2 cups milk
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup sugar

Pancakes

* 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
* 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg, well beaten
* 1 1/4 cups milk
* 3 tablespoons shortening or salad oil

Waffles

* 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
* 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg, well beaten
* 1 1/4 cups milk
* 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 3 tablespoons shortening or salad oil

Pound Cake

* 3 cups cake flour
* 6 large eggs
* 1 lb butter
* 1 lb sugar
* 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup milk

Custard

* 6 large eggs
* 1 1/2 pints heavy cream
* 1 pint half-and-half
* 1 ounce brandy
* 1/4 ounce nutmeg
* 1/2 ounce cinnamon
* 1 1/2 cups sugar

Additional Ingredients to Assemble

* 1 cup frozen raspberries
* 1 cup frozen blueberries
* 3 bananas
* 1 tablespoon butter

Baking and Garnishing

* 1 banana
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 1/2 pint your favorite fresh berries

DIRECTIONS

1. Make the Pastry Cream first.
a. In a 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar, flour, salt and milk and whisk; over medium heat, cook while stirring until mixture thickens.

b. In a small bowl with a fork, beat egg yolks slightly, beat small amount of milk mixture into yolks.

c. Slowly pour egg mixture back into milk mixture.

d. Stirring constantly, cook over medium low heat until mixture thickens.

e. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Chill cream until ready to use.

2. While cream is chilling, make pancakes, waffles and pound cake:
Pancakes: (note the 3 TB. shortening should be melted and slightly cooled)
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix egg, milk and shortening. Pour milk mixture into dry ingredients and stir only enough to moisten. Do not beat or the pancakes will be tough. Bake on a hot griddle, lightly greased if necessary. Turn pancakes only once.

Waffles:
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix egg, milk, vanilla and shortening. Pour milk mixture into dry ingredients and stir only enough to moisten. Do not beat or the waffles will be tough. Bake in waffle iron following waffle iron instructions.

Pound Cake:
Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar, using a large spoon. Add room temperature butter. Add eggs. Using a mixer on low speed, slowly add the milk, and then the vanilla extract. After thoroughly stirred, turn mixer to medium for a few minutes, then to high. Mix thoroughly. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a standard tube pan with butter, then lightly flour it, shaking the excess from the pan. Pour in the mix and bake the cake for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Check the doneness of the cake with a toothpick. Allow cake to cool for 15-20 minutes in the pan, then crumble the cake into small crumbs with your hands.

3. Custard:.
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk until fully incorporated. Chill until ready to use. Makes 1 1/2 quarts.

Assembly:

Put a layer of waffles in a buttered casserole dish. Sprinkle a quarter of the pound cake over the waffles. Peel and slice the bananas. Layer with half of each of the following: the cut bananas, frozen raspberries, and frozen blueberries. Sprinkle half of the remaining pound cake over the fruit, then top with the rest of the fruit. Top the fruit with a layer of pancakes, the sprinkle the rest of the pound cake on top. Press down on the layers to pack firmly. Slowly add the 1 1/2 quarts custard mixture until the entire dish is saturated.

Baking and Garnishing:
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 60 minutes. (Oven thermometer placed in center of dish should register 165 degrees.) Top the lasagna with a layer of 2 1/2 cups pastry cream. Slice the banana and layer on top of cream. Sprinkle sugar on top and place casserole under the broiler until browned. Garnish with fresh fruit and serve.

I'll have to dig up a photo of the one we have made at home....

My husband's favorite meal is the honey coriander chicken wings from Ohana (you can find the recipe online if you Google it).

It's not exactly difficult to make, but it requires an irritating number of spices!

Or maybe I should make it then wait 180 days to eat it...maybe that will make it taste right. ;)

Honestly, the warm chocolate lava cakes sound hard, but are quite easy. I have the cookbook from F&W festival and will try and put it in later tonight.

Citrico's gave me about 5 recipes when we were there some days ago. I haven't had time to try any yet. I'm dying to try the shrimp appetizer. It was so good there! It look pretty simple, too.
Sautéed Shrimp - Lemon, White Wine, Tomatoes, and Feta Cheese

I'll post the recipes I have in a bit. :)
