Just back from a great vacation with our main goal- to eat!!!!! We ate at the following places:
Artist's Point
Le Cellier
Citrico's
California Grill

We have eaten at all the above except for Citrico's which we LOVED!

Although we love the food a California Grill very much, this trip the accoustics/noise at the restaurant were sooooo loud that DH really didn't enjoy the meal! There were pots clanging (or being dropped) and the overall noise level of the place was so bad, we couldn't hear the waiter or carry on a conversation! I understand that if the cooking is being done for all of us to see, there is a certain amount of noise is to be expected. However, even at Citrico's the noise level was enough for us to talk.

I think it will be a while before we go back again. Anyone have a similar experience? I did a search, but perhaps we are a little too old fashioned  and are just ready for a quieter experience!

What time did you go to Cali Grill? We have been three times and have always done the 5:30-45 time frame and it is never loud enough that we cannot hear each other..but by the time we leave almost 2 hours later it can be pretty noisy

Agreed! We also have been to both Cali and Citrico's. We found Cali to be so loud, and we weren't even seated by the kitchen. There seemed to be a lot of kids around as well, which didn't bode well for a romantic dinner.

At Citrico's, we were seated by the kitchen doors/wine room and it was hardly noticable. We were able to chat and had a great evening.

I'd also recommend you try Narcoussee's (GF on the dock) on your next trip. Although it can be slightly loud (not nearly as loud as the Cali), the restaurant itself is very small so it provides a good intimate setting. During dinner, you can also go out to the docks to watch the fireworks.

Add Raglan Road as a loud place. Our food was incredible, some of the best we had on that trip. But it was sooooo noisy. I understand that Irish Pubs can be (duh) but it felt over the top to me. Not sure if we'll go back because of the noise levels.

We have not tried Citricos but have dine at all the others. Our meal at CG was great, not noisy. We dined around 7.
Although we love the food at Flying Fish we never take others with us because it is so noisy. We sit close to each  just hear our own conversation.

Next time you plan a meal at Cali Grille, request to be seated in the wine room, not only is it very quiet in there, the lighting is very romantic, nothing like the rest of the restaurant.
