 Hi!
Just wanted to let you know that Avis have some great prices at present.

I've just booked £153 for 9 days worth of compact 4 door before easter, compared with the next cheapest which was £201 with thrifty via usrentacar.

Got a quote for May halfterm as well - also much cheaper.

We've used them a lot in the past with no complaints and a lot of positives (be sure to register with Avis Preferred to avoid the queues) but used usrac last few times due to price - looks like that will be changing for the next few trips! :car:

Been looking at Avis myself, looking to book 9 nights in May. I find their website a little poor and more expensive than USrentacar. Dosn't tell you price of extra driver and can't add tank of gas (as in Gold option)

Wanting 2 dr(never pay for 4 dr they don't stock them) full size.

US renatacar budget with Gold £216 (after £5 code)
Or All incl £188 (after £5 off) This deal would incl 1 extra driver where Avis wouldn't
Avis £194.14 but extra driver and tank of gas ontop (locally extra driver is upto $12/day) could work out upto £100 more than US.

Your deal
Avis £153
Thrifty USrentacar same cover (All incl) £161.87 less £5 code £156.87

Am I seeing something wrong?

Some good deals there, I've always used Dollar, the desk is easy to get to once you come off the plane.... where is the desk for Thrifty etc????.

I used Dollar for about 15 years, approx 18 rentals but their prices have risen more than others, especially Budget in the past year.
Dollar will always be my 1st choice, never had hard sell, good cars and since joining Express had free upgrade all but 1 rental.
Used Budget last year and with Fastbreak almost as good, using them for 3 more rentals this year because of lower prices.

Thifty is offsite, they provide a shuttle bus. They are part of Dollar http://www.dtag.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=71946&p=irol-home

Hi Wayne,

I've been so used to usrentacar coming out much cheaper that I had to check it several times myself.

For my dates and car I got Avis at £153 and usrac Gold £201 for Thrifty (never used and not sure I want to...) and £203 for Budget who we usually use. All incl is £175 for Budget.

Avis policy is that the hire includes the spouse, so no extra driver charge. :thumbsup2 Would we use £50/$75 of fuel? Not this trip, so the take full/bring back full Avis deal seems best.

I've also priced up our August trip and here usrentacar come out way cheaper! Avis website do say they have offers to the US at the moment so I can only assume that the dates I've booked for are in the offer.

I guess it all hinges on searching and seeing what works for each trip (which I gather you are the expert at!) - just wanted to give folk the heads up to take a look!!

Hi Karen, having spouse included makes a big difference I did not see anything about that.
I sometimes wonder if they actually ask end users to test these sites, its OK web developers getting sites to work but info that should stand out is hidden, even when it would create more sales.

Is the Gold option worth it though, for instance the dates we want from tampa airport with dollar are £613 inclusive which gives us one extra named driver but the same car on the gold package is £730 so basically paying £117 for a tank of fuel which seems a bit over the top to me - or am i missing something???? Only concern is we land late at night and if we dont go for the gold option will the car be full of fuel which i pay dollar for or do i have to find a gas station as soon as i leave the airport?

Who is that booking thru? never seen a deal with Gold option so high.

All rental cars come with a full tank of gas. Its then what option you take from there, prepay in UK or prepay at the desk both these options you take back empty. Other option is take back full at end of holiday.

Hi Wayne

That is through us rentacar but we are there from 9th august to the 3rd september so its a long rental, it was using Dollar as the rental company - there inclusive insurance includes one extra driver and there is only me and the better half who can drive anyway, so basically the only difference seems to be the tank of fuel which as i said im sure wouldnt cost over £100.

Have you had any dealings with thrifty? they are slightly cheaper on the same vehicle but dollar seem to get good reports not so sure about thrifty

Hi Karen, having spouse included makes a big difference I did not see anything about that.

Hi Wayne,
No I've not found it on the site either, we only know because we asked! My husband says the exact thing he was told was "no extra charge for legal spouse or business partner".

Just looked at the booking confirmation which says this "Please be advised that if a second driver is requested, they must also be present when picking up the car, and have their original driving licence. An additional driver fee may be charged." That doesn't help either and as the additional driver I don't think I've ever been asked to show my licence.

Never used Thrifty but they are part of Dollar group so I would try them if the price is right.

Yes it is a long rental, gold will be expensive, do you need additional driver? Netflights have 4x4 with Thrifty for £566 if you only want the 1 driver.

If you need extra driver I would try get a deal with All inclusive with 1 extra driver, £100 for a tank of gas is crazy.

Cant imagine my wife driving over there to be honest Wayne but i always think just in case of an ermgency, thats why i thought the dollar one of £613 with one extra driver wasnt to bad, i think thrifty are onsite but a bit dubious as to why they are cheaper - are the cars likely to be in not such good condition?? So if we go for the inclusive option are you saying the tank will be full when we collect the car and we will get a bill for filling it back up when we drop it off? Im not looking forward to driving and we dont land until about 10.15pm so dont really fancy having to worry about getting fuel as well as everything else.

You are same as us, I am the only driver but I have always paid for Gold to cover Karen, usually its been worth it for free tank of gas but on a long rental like yours and latest increases in gold cover It too much. I just think its far easier to add her to start than get her added in an emergency.
Yes all cars are full on collection.

This is USrentacars FAQ on the subject
Question
Can I collect the car full of petrol and return it full of petrol?
Answer
Budget is the only supplier that will allow you do to so. With our other suppliers you will need to pay for the fuel at their local charges. If you select the Gold rate there are no charges for fuel as it is included in the charge.

This is not true You can with Dollar also, the only 1 time we did not take gold option with Dollar we took it back full. See policy I, Gasoline policy http://www.dollar.com/AboutUs/GeneralPolicies.aspx

We land in Tampa at 8:45pm on the 6th, not quite as late as you but you want have the need to get gas whichever way you do it.

For Thrifty, with it all being the same group as Dollar I would have thought they all pool the same cars but never used them so don't know.
Time for bed now, work in 4 hours:scared1:

Thanks for the info Wayne, a great help again, really need to get something booked as im sure the prices will increase again before we go.

Great Info Thanks
Just noticed this thread and checked as was planning to book through US Rentacar this weekend.

Just booked 15 days basic car Pick up MCO, drop off Port Canaveral(only 2 of us) for £242, came out a little cheaper than US rentacar
Had to use Budget though for a days hire to get us back from PC to MCO after our cruise........Avis were double the Budget price for that option!

Best of it...I was able to book the Avis hire through the airmiles link..so 150 airmiles credited to our account (10 per day).
Thanks guys!

Another bit of the trip planning done..........now to some more..:surfweb:
