Great Balcony for toddlers at BWV

We stayed at the BWV in the beginning of February in a preferred room. There are about 4 rooms that overlook the Luna Park Pool that have solid walls for the balconies instead of the slots. We, luckily, stayed in one these rooms and it was great for small children as you don't have to worry about them climbing on the chairs and falling over or sticking their limbs through the slots. The only downside is the walls are about 5 feet high, so you do need to stand to look over them. I do highly recommed these for anyone with toddlers.

LOL, GGjertsen! I've read several complaints about those balconies - apparently, some people do not like them. :teeth: So it's true! What annoys some, delights others!

Thanks for reminding us!

Best wishes -

Carol!!! I had exactly the same thought when reading it...great minds must think alike, no?

It isn't quite making lemonade out of sour lemons (cause a slatted wall really is a safety issue for those with toddlers ) but by posting GG allowed all with toddlers to request these solid walls and get lemonade! So Disney dollars to GG!

I can see why those who were hoping to sit on a balcony and watch the view, margarita in hand, might be disappointed that they have to stand and drink and peak over the top (esp if they are short.)

Oh dang, another question to bug CMs with when they make room assignments. I had noticed on my room listing comment sheet for BWV that some rooms had 'solid wall balcony' under 'comments' so now I finally know what that means.

GG..did the higher solid wall make the room feel darker?

We had the opposite response. With the solid railings, my kids were pulling chairs to stand on and see. Those chairs aren't really sturdy enough for their weight, so we spent our vacation not using the balcony because keeping the kids off the chairs was too big of a headache! Would have much preferred slats they could look through!

I can see that 'side' too. Of course, your kids are probably a little older than 'toddlers'.

For me, I 'd LOVE to be able to sit on my balcony and relax, watch the view.

I wonder if Disney has an explanation for 5'walls ?

My kids had just turned four and five last trip. But they have been little "monkeys" since toddlerhood. I have one of those kids that when I would go change the baby, I'd have to take him with me or I'd find he'd pulled over a chair, climbed onto the counter, and was scaling the refrigerator at about sixteen months. Seeing through is better than climbing over. Stuck little legs get extracted with a little vaseline, little heads aren't so easy to fix.

(Needless to say, my kids aren't unsupervised on a balcony).

My kids are late 2 and late 1. (Irish twins). I could see older kids trying to look over, but even if my kids climbed on the chairs there was no way they could see over, so they stayed away. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge over the summer in a cash room overlooking the pool. It was on the fifth floor and even if we were out on the balcony I was afraid to let my kids near the balcony. It was a long way up. God forbid you look away for a second. As to making the room feel darker I have really nothing to compare it to as it was the first time staying at the boardwalk. (First trip home). It seemed very bright though.

our first trip home in june '04 we got 'stuck' with one of these balconies with a Boardwalk view room! i was sooo disappointed when we first opened the door. BUT i quickly realized this was the perfect balcony for our 2yr old, he had no idea there was anything to see so he didn't try to climb up and look over it :).

i think it was room 5015? or 13. somewhere around there. studio. if you look at the boardwalk there are only 4 rooms with that balcony. just my luck.

We're just back from BW view, 1 bedroom solid ( huge) balcony room 2043. We were bummed since we love watching the activities on the BW. My husband and I did say that it'd be a great room if we had grandchildren.

Our first trip as DVC members was in a studio at bwv and it overlooked the Luna pool. I was disappointed that the only way to see anything was to stand up and really confused because it was also HA so that anyone in a wheelchair would have had no pleasure at all from the balcony if the wanted to see anything other than the sky and parts of the upper floors. We didn't need HA thankfully and enjoyed our two days there before moving on to a GV at OKW despite having to mop up the floor after every shower. As was pointed out what one person sees as a problem is a solution for someone else. Any day or room at DVC is better than a day at work.
