We just returned from a great trip to Disney. Our family all loves GAMR. I thought I read that they may close the ride? I hope this isn't true. It had almost as long of a wait as RNR and TOT. People really love the ride and it is a classic. Please Disney, don't get rid of a ride people love!!!!!!

There's no rumors of it closing. Turner classic movies just recently took over sponsorship and there have been a few changes inside and out. It's not going anywhere soon

It is my understanding that Disneys contract with TCM is coming to an end soon and TCM is not planning to renew.

Hence the makeover rumours.

Add it to the rumors of Indiana Jones show closing, Disneyland parades coming to wdw, and radiator springs coming to wdw..

I can't see The Great Movie Ride closing anytime soon. If it does I'd think it would be around 2020 when Pixar and Star Wars land are done.

It's a great classic ride with a ton of history inside and out the ride but could use a complete overhaul with new scenes and new effects

I'm with you, I adore the right and am very much hoping the rumors are just rumors and it doesn't close!

TCM has been told the ride is closing when the existing sponsorship contract ends. GMR scores very poorly in guest satisfaction surveys. The replacement is still unclear.

I've always enjoyed the ride and hope it stays, but it does need to be updated.

I love the GMR but if the park loses its Hollywood theme, it would make sense to put in a new attraction.

It would be sad to see it go. I know that some of the scenes could use some updating, but the ending scene from the Wizard of Oz is one of my family's favorite things.

I love this ride, but I also agree it NEEDS a refurb. I would hate to see it go and I'm glad it's only rumors so far.

I hope Universal picks up on the void this will create. The Homage to Hollywood will be sorely missed. More erosion of the soul...

They would do well with some type of historic preservation.

I love the concept, but am in the camp of it being horribly out of date. I understand why they have tributes to movies that old, but most people on the ride have little understanding of them, so they can't appreciate them. Even I, at age 44, don't know a bunch of the movies referenced very well...though I admit I'm not a movie buff. My kids have no idea what Wizard of Oz is (my wife and I aren't fans, so we haven't shown them). I think it would be better served to have some tributes to really old movies, but focus more on things in the past 30ish years, where many people will remember the movies. I do like the video at the very end with clips of all kinds of movies.

The line at that ride is strange. I've seen it get to 60 minutes, on occasion more. But very often it's 10-15 minutes. Can't figure out why it varies so greatly.

I agree. When you didn't grow up with it and ride it for the first time as an adult in the 2010s...past its prime is where your first impression begins.

I second this. We rode for the first time in 2014... didn't get it at all. Rode is again this year. Still don't get it. Needs a serious update, and a better sound system (can't hear a blasted word of the dialogue once your guide is not standing on your vehicle anymore. I still have no clue what happens between the guide and the gangster.

I don't remember ever seeing it called the Great American Movie Ride before. I don't suppose "Mary Poppins" counts as making it international (nor any of the films represented that were directed by non-Americans).

I'm not sure if that slip has any significance with regard to the ride. Including some foreign classics ("M"? "Der Blaue Engel"? "The 400 Blows"?) wouldn't have given it a longer lifespan. (Well, maybe "I Am Curious (Yellow)" would.) I don't know how to bring back an appreciation for the films of that era.

These films are a tough watch for me, raised on pablum. Popular movies have cuts down to a science. If it isn't Bourne Identity action or cotton candy faerie land it's going to be a flop. It's fairly difficult to even locate a bunch of this stuff without purchase. Even if at the cable company's rates of extortion.

The only solution for me is to not go. I'm less and less the target audience.

I think the park is long overdue for a "classic Mickey" attraction. That would be awesome... an attraction that highlighted the development of Mickey's look and character from like Oswald to modern day? That would rock!

I'm sure that this story that broke two days ago isn't going to make the GMR rumors go away: Disney's partnership with TCM questioned as annual TCM Classic Cruise abruptly ends
Despite selling out for the past five years, this year will mark the final voyage of the TCM Classic Cruise, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The annual cruise has been one of the signature pieces of the partnership between Turner Classic Movies and Disney. This year’s cruise was even bumped up to the larger Disney Fantasy; it had previously sailed on the Disney Magic. The first two TCM Classic Cruises were with Celebrity Cruises.

Turner Classic Movies has a strong alliance with Disney that ranges from ride sponsorships (The Great Movie Ride at DHS) to special Disney programming blocks on TCM to Disney-focused events at TCM film festivals. The cruise is one of the longer-running aspects of the partnership and one of the most high-profile.

Though it's on a Disney Cruise Line ship, the TCM Classic Cruise isn't offered via Disney Cruise Lines – unlike some other specially themed cruises, tickets are sold via TCMcruise.com. Turner Classic Movies has issued a statement saying they were looking to “connect and engage with our fans in new and different ways” as the brand evolves. No official word has been offered on what that may mean for the future of their work with Disney.
