Gratuities?

If you are going on a cruise, EXPECT to pay the gratuity and in DCL's case, it's $12pp/day.

If you get great service, add to this amount, with cash. If you get not so great service, give them this gratuity but note on your guest survey what you were not satisfied with. I don't think it's fair to give them less. If you're getting bad service, you need to speak up. They should and will try to remedy whatever you aren't happy with to the best of their ability. That's how I see it.

Well, what the OP did is called research. She didn't understand something, she found a place where she could gather more information, and she asked a question. Now she knows the answer to her question and can proceed.

You mean, there's an alternative to walking onto a ship with no knowledge of how things work in order to be well-informed and avoid unpleasant surprises? The OP is onto something here!

Living in the UK and going on a European cruise in June/July meant DH and I had no US cash on us (sure, we could have exchanged some at our bank, but we were too busy before the cruise) - so when we wanted to add more for our main server and stateroom host, it was a bit of an ordeal through GS. I had thought we could just throw a few dollars onto each tip, they'd charge it to our account and we'd all move on. Instead it took awhile, new tickets had to be printed, I had to go back to my stateroom to get the other tickets, stand in the line again and return them...it wasn't a huge deal but when you're running around trying to get stuff done, that's not what I wanted to be doing.

In short: if you think you'll want to add to anyones tip, have US dollars (I'm sure that's not an issue for most on here!) or consider doing it either the morning of the last day, or possibly the 2nd to last night (I'm guessing you can do this before the tip slips are printed?)
