Grass Stains!!! Best/Cheap way to get them OUT!!!

Ugh! We have city water and I am sick and tired of washing (and paying for the water to do so!) the boys jeans two or three times to try to get the grass stains out of the knees. The boys are 4 and play hard outside. I now have 'play' jeans and 'good' jeans, but sometimes some 'good' jeans end up being worn and 'surprise' they are now 'play' jeans because I can't seem to get the grass stains out!!!!

Granted, I've never been much of a stain removal whiz, but I need some help! What do you use to get grass stains out? Will anything take them out? Right now I am just pretreating the area with Tide and washing them with a normal load of clothes. Then sometimes I wash them again because the stain doesn't look like it's been affected/treated at all. I am not drying these pants in the dryer because I don't want to 'set' the stain, but am so frustrated that even with repeated washings they still look terrible.

I love my little guys, really I do! But, I'm begging for some laundry tips to help out the stains. I would like to put the jeans in the dryer so they aren't so stiff when they put them on, but I don't want to set the stain.

HELP PLEASE! Some laundry whiz out there can tell me how to get these stains out!

Have you tried Shout Advanced gel? Most stains I can get out with spray n wash. Use spray n wash stick if not washing right away. I have good luck with the shout advanced gel on the stains spray n wash won't get out.

I've always had good luck with liquid Tide for grass stains

i use oxy clean, i buy the powder and just make a paste and let it set for a bit them wash

HUGE fan of Liquid Tide here. I know it's more money, but it gets out every grass stain my kids can bring home. Just rub some into the stain before you wash them and they will come out clean.

I will try to shout and the gel and maybe even the oxyclean (I'm always afraid of removing color from the fabric when I use this!). I will try everything until I find something that works for us though!

I SO hear you. My oldest was the worst; I never knew how he could get dirty so fast! I always used the shout stain stick and it seemed to get the grass stains our without fail.

I've also heard of pre-treating with vinegar (white vinegar only). That would be a very economical way to go.

Having three boys I definitely know all about grass stains!!!! Ketchup too! I spent years getting grass stains out of jeans etc. I've always used a bar of soap called fels naptha. It is sold in the bar of soap section of our local grocery stores. I just either rubbed in into the grass stain or took an old toothbrush to the bar of soap and then rubbed it into any troubled stain I had. Friends were amazed at how clean my boys clothes were. I use Tide with bleach alternative, Shout spray and if it's really bad this carpet/stain remover I use. It's called Kids n Pets Instant All Purpose stain and odor remover; it's for carpets, furniture whatever but you can also pretreat clothes with it. The main ingredient is isopropyl alcohol but it is the best stain remover and the only one I'll buy for carpets and clothes if needed. I buy it in the cleaner aisle at Walmart.

Oxi Clean Max Force spray and Spray & Wash with Resolve are my new best friends. No real grass stains here (girls are 12 & 14) but between chocolate ice cream and Ketchup, I think this stuff is great. Last night older DD 14 dripped chocolate ice cream from Baskin Robbins on her new white air brush shirt. AS soon as we got home, I had it under cold water with Dawn dish soap, and the Oxi Clean spray with a powered tooth brush. I had the bleach gel if necessary, but managed to get it out with just those items.

For 35 years of washing grass stains, even out of little girl white cotton pants, the clear Karo syrup will do it every time.

Inexpensive, keep it forever for wash....
Pour it on, let it sit, maybe over night and wash.

I use Borax 2o mule team and no clorox anymore in my laundry. Keeps the towels from musty smell in humid weather, takes odors out of work clothes, Baby spit up.

My MIL got me stuck on Lestoil....It even gets stains out after I've had things in the dryer. I just pour about a capful on the stain straight out of the bottle brush with a toothbrush (old one of course) and let sit for awhile. Then wash like I normally would...sometimes tough stains need a second dose. But it has been working for me for 28 years and I would not let my laundry be without it.
