So, we went on our first cruise back in April and my daughter bought me a mug on Castaway Cay. It didn't say anything about not being dishwasher safe, so I put it in the dishwasher like any other mug. Well, it turns out the graphics are some kind of decal and after only one washing the graphics on both sides are almost completely gone and I'm left with a practically blank green mug. Someone on another board says he has the same mug and experienced the same problem. Has anyone had a problem with CC merchandise and had it successfully replaced? If so, how? I'm not expecting to be on another cruise anytime soon. Thanks.

This is happening to my mug as well. So far just the one corner of a palm tree has lifted. I didn't try to return it. Just chalked it up to one of those things. Too bad though....it is a nice, comfortable in my hand mug!

I had the same thing happen to my Magic coffee mug that my dh bought for my birthday on our first cruise last November.

I emailed DCL and they replied with this phone number to call for a refund:
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Merchandise Guest Services Team at
1-877-560-6477

I was hoping they could replace it, because I love that mug...but at least they gave us a refund.

HTH

Sadly, it's very common with mugs. Sorry that happened. Good to relay to future cruisers. I recommend future cruisers spend a little more and purchase the Tervis tumbler that is dishwasher safe and for both hot and cold beverages and lifetime guarantee.

I bought 4 tervis tumblers too....(a wee but obsessed...lol), but really liked the green Castaway mug. Still like it despite it's flaws. :D

Sadly the disappearing graphics issue is all too common with Disney as of late. In particular, the mugs and glasses that are printed for the races, ie Princess Half Marathon, Marathon, Wine & Dine etc are notorious for their poor quality graphics.

This happens all the time with Disney mugs. We have a lovely mug that is the most ugly shade of brown. We still use it because we like the size and feel but any Disneyness have long disappeared. We have stopped buying their mugs for this reason. It is a shame.

This just happened with our green Castaway Cay mug, too. We bought it on our cruise last May 2014. It went through our old GE dishwasher just fine (which didn't clean that well), however once we bought a new Bosch dishwasher last month, the graphic started coming off. Disney Parks Merchandise is closed today (Sunday) but I am going to try calling tomorrow. So bummed!

We bough a glass tumbler onboard. A couple of washes, and I have a $20 clear glass. So, we bought another. Now I have 2 - $20 glass tumblers. Lesson learned.

Well it's a good thing I contacted Disney Parks Merchandise - I just got an e-mail that they're sending me a new mug! Yay!

I've learned to choose my mugs very carefully. There are some with porous looking ceramic and with graphics that look like they are just printed on. And then there are better ones that have a higher gloss coating and the graphics look more integrated into the mug's finish. These are not the correct technical terms I am sure. But the latter hold up way better in the dishwasher!

It happens with any kind of mug, I had one from California, the microwave did ours in. I have learned that if it does not say dishwasher safe do not put it in the dishwasher, likewise, same with the microwave.

To me these are mostly souveiners as I assume they'll wash off mostly after a use or two.

I have a little bookcase shelf in my office I put my knick knacks on wash free!

What a shame! I haven't had that happen to any of my Disney mugs, but come to think of it they weren't bought on DCL…. as for Tervis, I think pretty much all of their glasses/mugs have the design sandwiched between the layers……

This happened to a DVC mug I've only used a few times. We have a set of 6 character mugs from the early 90s that are used daily - including in the microwave and dishwasher - and they are still good as new.
