My DH's bday is next weekend and I want to get him some new graphic novels. He is into Marvel, he has some Hulk books, some batman, he also has Sin City. We also both enjoyed Y the last man. Any ideas?? I read the first four Walking Dead but he wasn't interested in those at all. TIA!!!

What about Bill Willingham's Fables? It's a bit adult with some certain scenes and violence but it has a pretty good story line.

Yes, he has read Watchmen, I got it for him a few christmas ago. I will check the other out on Amazon. Thanks!!

"Watchmen" is great. "Sandman" is pretty darned good too. For Batman, "Year One" isn't bad, "Nightfall" is okay, "Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" were pretty good too. The Batman "No Man's Land" was hit or miss - I enjoyed more than half of it, but parts I also hated. "Dark Night Returns" is good, "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" (a sequel) is only barely worth the paper is was printed on.

For Marvel, the whole "House of M" were okay. I think I saw that they made Civil War into a graphic novel, but what was an interesting idea at the outset devolved into something that should never have seen the light of day. I have a couple of the Spider-man GNs, and those are generally pretty good too.

I really enjoyed the JLA "New World Order", but mainly because Batman is really well written in that one.

I did find this - http://www.dccomics.com/sites/essential30/ - I don't agree with everything, but it's a pretty good (DC) list, overall.

I was going to recommend Watchmen, Fables, and Sandman but they've all been listed. Caveat about the Sandman series is the art is graphically gross/violent, even for an adult graphic novel (it's pretty dark, but really interesting and I love Neil Gaiman.)

I would have recommended Walking Dead. How about the Swamp Thing graphic novels by Alan Moore(of Watchmen fame)? That has some excellent writing.

Not sure how you feel about violence if you're ok with it The Boys is brilliant.
If you don't mind a religious type one then I would highly recommend Preacher have read the first two and loved it.

Also Batman the Killing Joke, Year one or RIP are all pretty good.

If he's a Disney nut Dark Horse comics made an 8-part series based around the Haunted Mansion. I have the first 7 and the last one comes out this July.
