I've scrimped and saved enough points to get a Grand Villa for November 2009 (yes, Jersey week). Our home resort is BCV (no Grand Villas there). We'll really need a GV to be comfortable. I'd LOVE to get one at the AKV. Has anyone tried to get one - were you successful???

Alternately, we'll go for OKW. We're stayed in one there before and they are beautiful. I just thought the family would be amazed at AKV.

Any thoughts????

thanks,
Lois

I agree, very tough. However, you never know! I would reserve something at your home resort first, then if you can switch to OKW. That is a busy, low point time at WDW and those DVC's get booked up. Especially during Jersey Week.

I hope it works out for your family to get the GV!:wizard:

hmmm, maybe do a 2BR and a studio. I was hoping to have me, DH, my sister and BIL, my son and his wife, and 3 kids. Too many for a 2BR. decisions decisions...

The OP may benefit from the Trade Wanted category on the Rent/Trade board, which allows you to post that you would like another DVC home resort reservation in exchange for your home resort. Assuming you would not be using banked/brrowed points for the reservaiton and depending on the UYs involved, you may even be able to accomplish this by tranferring points to another member and receiving transferred points from them and still comply with the 1 transfer per year rule. Best of luck -- Suzanne

I tried this summer and wasn't able to get the whole week at AKV. MS said that the AKV GV was available from Thursday to Sunday, the end of our stay. I was excited to have our whole family in the GV but when I asked the family, no one wanted to switch resorts from SSR to AKV.

Book your home resort and try at 7 months, you might be surprised at what is available.

We will be using banked points (I don't think we'll be using borrowed). Does that mean we can't do this. I'd think our BCV points might be nice for someone who likes F&W! (one of those initial things again, what's "OP"?)
thanks (:

I'll have to do some point calculating and see how much "bang for my buck, or in this case points" I can finagle. (:

Actually, for the time you want to book (November 2009), Kidani will be fully open, so I think you may actually have a pretty good shot at booking a GV at the 7 month window. It's not like OKW, with the low GV points, that get snapped up quickly. You're talking 73 points a night Sun - Thurs, with 88 Fri & Sat. The 6 GVs in Jambo will probably be gone, but I suspect some of the 16 in Kidani will be available. Then again, since Kidani is so new, there might not be anything left, but I think your odds are better than a GV at either OKW or BWV.

2 - 2 Bedrooms would sleep more people and are close to the same number of points and probably easier to get.

I just gave up a GV at a little less than 6 mos for OKW in late April -- switched to AKV 2BR SV.

So somebody got that one at 7 mos. However, it may have been an OKW owner who got their name on the waitlist before 7 mos.

We have one for that time in 2008 at SSR and booked about 5 months out. BWV is totally booked and OKW was sporadic. Depending on how many days etc they had OKW but not the days I needed and BWV absolutly nothing. I love BWV (well not the resort so much but EPCOT) and OKW points are unreal cheap. I'm pumped becasue I like the actual resort of SSR the best so I guess it is a win/win regardless.

I know it's a long way off, but I'm really excited. We usually stay in a studio. We had a sad thing happened our last (and only) time in a Grand Villa. We had everything planned, Cindy's breakfast, Illuminations Cruise and the GV at Old Key West. As we were checking in, we got a phone call, my dear MIL (who had been ill with cancer), passed away.....so we only had 1 night and then had to fly home. So, the dream of staying in a GV for a real vacation is still with me. And AKV - well that would be a dream vacation, my grandsons don't even know about the resort, so I can just imagine their surprise (: fingers are crossed.

I hope you can have that surprise for your GS this time around.

That's the reaction I wanted to see from my 7 yr old niece but she was good with the SSR "wildlife". (But just think what she would have been like with the AKV wildlife)
