GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

IMO once the increased restrictions are lifted the virus will rebound. If states or cities would enforce the masks and social distancing rules, it would reduce cases. Both the non-compliant person and the businesses that allow this behavior should be fined.

I think more people need to die first. I don’t see enough people worried about it.

I actually did see social distancing and full mask compliance at the BLM protests in my city that spanned 5 days.

And yes, the point I was trying to make is that even with JUST restaurants open at 50% capacity, as NYC just did, the dam is opened and the cases will start to climb again. Unless NYC plans to remain essentially closed until a vaccine is available, it is inevitable that the case counts will go back up.
Partial reason the deaths haven't increased is that they have discovered better treatment options. They have learned what makes for a better outcome.

Just don't forget that the health of these people that had severe cases and didn't die don't even know what they are in for yet.
this is a good point. Just ask a few people who've had a case of this (not asympomatic positive testing) and they'll tell you pretty fast, NO ONE wants to get this. It's rough going, and from the experiences I've heard (from actual people in my life) you feel like you're close to dying while going thru it. I think a lot of folks just don't seem to understand that.

I live in AZ, and I'm vitamin D deficient. So I supplement. I get plenty of sun, so it's not as simple as getting sun.

True. I listened to a podcast just last night with Ivor Cummins all about Vitamin D and COVID. He discussed some conditions that lower Vitamin D including insulin resistance and obesity. It is a link in the health chain.

I have read all sorts of accounts, including several where people legitimately thought they just had allergies or a sinus infection because it was so mild. Not everyone with symptoms has it rough. My husband is working at Marine Corps boot camp right now and several recruits and staff members are infected, and have symptoms, but none have needed medical attention yet.

Time will tell.

The zip code dashboard heat map really sucks. It’s hard to easily see the hot spots. We’re not testing enough. We still have positivity rates in the double digits. We need to test enough to bring this down to five percent. If increased testing doesn’t do that, then we need to add more restrictions. It will take two weeks before we see the impact of the latest changes.
This is where I found a good breakdown on the numbers:

A zip code means nothing if you don't live there! Exception: Mail people

I’m guessing the virus will be with us longer than a year. Time will tell if it’s still as lethal or weakens. We are already seeing fewer deaths with increased infections.
You’re mixing up multiple statistics. Lower CFR is a direct result from increased testing and younger demographic rising. But, now that the younger people have become widely infected, the elderly are now being infected at a higher rate again according to some of the data available.

IMO, the death rate is more about the treatment, than the virulence. Here in AZ, there is a team of people at one hospital assigned to re-positioning patients. They've found that lying on your stomach improves outcomes.
I hope the your'e right and the virus learns to avoid killing hosts. That would be great. This virus is so bizarre!
The vaccines are the only thing that can might slow/ stop this, but I doubt anything will be ready to go this year.
Prone position is one of the few consensus protocol ever since the beginning. Nothing new at all.
And what is it supposed to mean by the virus learns to avoid killing hosts?

For many people, it’s never a problem until it becomes a personal problem. That’s a problem with an individualist country like ours.

Its been documented in many studies of lingering medical problems for both asymptomatic and recovered patients.

The focus on just infection and death statistics is insufficient. There will likely be a bigger burden on the health system in the future.

And there can be lasting complications even after recovering.

It’s not optimal for the virus to kill the host because when the host dies, the virus dies. Many viruses naturally mutate over time to be less virulent because it’s in the best interest of the virus.

Actually in NYC, they had a higher death rate using ventilators and that's when re-positioning became preferable. Personally, I consider this whole Virus new, since it's not even 1 year old.

It is hypothesized that viruses are driven, like all living things, to survive. If a virus kills it's host, it isn't very successful. So it learns to avoid killing the host. AIDS is one example.

Not sure I understand your last statement? Are you saying that the virus that causes HIV/AIDS has learned to become less virulent and people are not dying as much?

AIDS isn't a virus. HIV is.

Just read a story in my local news (Virginia). Virginia reported a spike in our cases today due to some upward numbers in one country. The health department said that it was tied to an event in Myrtle Beach that was responsible for about 100 of the positive cases. These were high school students who had taken the trip together for Beach Week. No further details, but yowza, what the heck were they doing (I think age 16-18). I'd love to read more about it.

We had some cases tested to Myrtle beach too. That’s why it concerns me that the numbers positive in places like Florida are going up. People around me are vacationing and it’s only a matter of time until our numbers climb as well.

No I am saying HIV has become less virulent, so lifespan is longer. Treatments have also improved.

Ok, I've never heard it was less virulent at all. I thought we had so many treatments that people were able to live with it. Never heard that the virus adjusted itself so that hosts don't die, but I'll be sure to look for that as I'm curious.

But lung damage seen on CT scan doesn't always translate to functional issues. In a previously healthy individual, with completely healthy lungs pre infection, they are able to sustain a small amount of damage with no ill effects on quality of life. Lungs are "overbuilt", in that they are larger than they need to be, and can sustain a fair amount of thickening without compromising breathing ability.
