Grand Gatherings for us(we have done 2) are for groups of 8 or more for those staying on property. There might be some other rules but not sure. You can check the DIS for official. There was no cost for us to book it. There are no discounts either. We were givien a GG# for us to make our reservations and it made it easier for us to dine together. There was 13 of us on our first GG and we sat at one large table at some restaurants and then 2 tables at others. There are Grand Gathering offerings where you can do things that are just for those on Grand Gatherings. A Safari/breakfast, cruise, meals, tour, etc. I don't know much about those b/c there was a minumum # from your group(8 I think) to attend and we didn't have enough to book them. Those do cost.

We just travelled as a grand gathering, but did not take advantage of any of the special programs.
I found using the gg planners frustrating they were not always as helpful as CR or dining.
