I thought that being a part of a Grand Gathering meant that they would try to put our rooms close together. I called member services today and they told me that they couldn't link our reservations together with our Grand Gathering number because one of our groups is in a 1 bedroom villa and the other a studio. Does this sound right?:confused3

Linking is different than noting a Grand Gathering in Disney lingo. Linking a reservation to DVC means that you have a continuing reservation for the same party in the same room class at the same resort. Like linking a Member cash reservation to a points reservation so the occupants don't have to move, the system interprets it as one reservation.

So your rooms can not be "linked."

If the Grand Gathering number is listed on the reservations, chances are that the rooms will be blocked prior to you arrival and they will be close to each other. Also if bith reservations note that you want to be located near the other party, that is helpful.

When we went as a Grand gathering before I didn't request connecting rooms, but some mystery period of time before our trip (I can't remember how long) we were contacted by a Grand Gathering coordinator who let me know that she was connecting our rooms at Pop. When we arrived all four rooms were side by side. Now, when we transfered to the BWI our rooms were separate - I believe that this was because we were in differing accommodations (a grand villa and one studio with standard view) and perhaps these types of rooms aren't next door to each other. The GV and the studio were down the hall from each other.
I would bet that the possibility of getting connecting rooms is also dependant on how busy the hotel is when you are travelling.
