Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - It's Official!

Sentinel said late 2013, meeting said late 2014. 3 years seems long.

This is what I thought as well. It HAS to be 2013, doesn't it? Otherwise they will have almost nothing but AKL to sell at WDW for 2 years or so.

I attended the DVC Annual Meeting. Highlights:

DVC members will be able to purchase Tables in Wonderland without an AP

Super excited about the GFV but also about the above! When is this set to start?

I think the GCV are the smallest.

It is bigger than I thought is would be (I was thinking 100 to 120) 2br equivelents, which would have been about the size of VWL at 110.

I am very excited about these changes. I especially love the TIW option since my oldest just turned 10 and DDP is now completely overpriced for us.

When we can start getting the TIW card? Very excited about this and of course the VGF! Time for an add on. Love the GF...my all time favorite resort!

Awesome news on GF. Poly is sure to be next as DVC has figured out that small DVC components at premier hotel locations sells fast and at a premium cost. Also nice to see them add some perks as opposed to taking them away. The reallocation is surely going to tick off some people, my take on that though is they have to do whats best for the membership as a whole.

With 136 Vacation Homes, Villas at Wilderness Lodge will remain the smallest of the DVC resorts at WDW. VGF will be the second smallest.

:confused3 VGF has only 48, no? :confused3

Perhaps some abbreviation confusion. VGF (Grand Floridian will have 147). VGC (or GCV) does have 48 and is the smallest DVC in the world.

Agree. We were debating purchasing one AP this time around just to get the TiW as I may be back for business in the next year.

I believe Disney has plenty of incentive to create DVC components at their premier hotels for several reasons besides the fact that they sell well. Disney can now pawn off some of the operating cost of the front desk and transportation onto the DVC owners , as well as more guest means high demand for the restaurants, which tend to be more on the high end.

I would imagine we will see a points chart similar to BLT for the VGF. Although since it will not be as tall nor nearly as close to the MK I doubt there will really be a theme park view that will command the point premium that they have at BLT. One disadvantage of GF is the inability to walk to the MK. It would be nice if they could install a couple of bridges and create a walkway to the MK.

Villas at the Grand Floridian (VGF), not the Villas at Grand California (VGC) that wdrl was referring to since he restricted it to DVC resorts at WDW.

Unless they ever convert Grand Californian hotel rooms into DVC villas, VGC will always be the smallest DVC resort.

I am very interested on seeing where this price starts out at per point. I am very interested in the Grand Floridian, so hopefully not more the BLT.

TIW card is a nice Perk too, for DVC members. Disney is just full of news these days....

Am I the only one not a fan of this? I think the Poly would have been so much better or just another theme all together. GF is my least favorite resort plus it is so similar to BWV in my opinion.

At the Annual Meeting, tjkraz tweeted that Disney said the Villas at Grand Floridian would open in 2014. However, the news item on dvcmember.com says VGF will open late 2013.

DVD is just now breaking ground for VGF. Can they build a 147-unit resort in 24 months?

So assuming they will open in 2014 (or late 2013) when would you expect sales to start?

We're really excited that it is official. We're definitely planning on adding on, although we're waiting to see point charts before we decide how many points to buy.

We're not going to sell any of our existing points to add on; we use more points than we have most years since we like to bring friends and family with us. We were already considering adding on at Aulani, but we wanted to stay there first before we made up our minds.

I'm very happy about the announcement!

I am very excited! I'm sure I won't be adding on, but I'd love to use my existing points there.

A lot of if they can build it is 18-20 months depends on the type of structure they pick. If it is like BLT I would say that is being optomistic, if it is a lighter structure that they can get up in 6-8 months then yes it could be open by them (but likely not 100% complete)
