Hi all! I am an avid forum reader and now need some help! We have stayed at the Polynesian our last 2 trips (and loved it!) But wanted to try something different and got a great deal for Grand Floridian for this visit in August. Only 30 more days (yay!!) and now I have a lot of questions ;-)

We are staying in the main building - have a standard room booked. I know the lounge is on the 4th floor. Should we even bother with a room request? Is one of the floors better?

I'm nervous, really hope we love as much as the Poly. From what I'm reading I think we will but would love some other opinions!

Is the entrance to Gasparilla grill inside the main building? Or do you need to leave the main building?

Thanks all!

First, everyone/family is different and GF is our favorite deluxe, but we are not big fans of Poly. Gasparilla's entrance is from the outside, but if I remember right you can take a covered porch all the way there from the main building. You can sit at the outside tables, with a view of the castle.

poly is my heart. when I had a visit to the grand I was thinking id never want to stay there. I ended up getting a great deal and once I stayed I fell in love! these are the 2 best resorts on property. I stay at both now. also if you miss the poly you can take a beautiful 10 minute stroll to the poly from the grand :) the rooms at the grand are nicer too. You have to still go outside to get to gasparilla but there is a small elevator for club level guests that comes down right next to gasparilla so look for that. also make sure you try the chicken and brie sandwich, it is sooo good!

Like the pp, I never thought I'd ever stay at the GF. We would visit every trip to eat, shop, etc and I just never had any desire to stay there. After many years, I finally took the plunge and much to my surprise, I loved it! I found that for me, actually staying at a resort vs just visiting gives a different perspective. The Poly is (and always will be) my favorite, but I do also love the GF. Hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

I have reservations at GF for a lagoon view, outer building. Should I request a certain building? I have never stayed here before.

Thanks all! Really looking forward to our visit, hope it is as special as Polynesian to us! Doesn’t sound like there’s much of a room request to make, not sure if floor matters much in the main building?

We had a partial castle view in our Lagoon view at Boca Chica. If we sat on the right side of the patio looking left it was a perfect view! I would put in a request for a partial castle view if you can.

The Grand is the part of WDW I miss the most! We’ve just moved to California and it’ll be awhile before we go to WDW again. Disneyland is great, but ohhhhhh my heart belongs to the Grand Floridian and WDW. We stayed at the Polynesian in August 2017 and it was great but I missed the GF. The main building is such a treat.... I always look at touring plans for room request ideas. The entrance to GG is outside, but I think there’s a hallway down for club members that puts you out right next to the restaurant or pretty close. I swear I saw it last time we were there. Have a fabulous time!!!!

We LOVE the GF. And to be honest, the food in the lounge was so plentiful throughout the day that we only went to Gaspirilla's late one night when we returned from After Hours at the Magic Kingdom. We got a pizza (which was awesome) to counteract all those Mickey Bars. :mickeybar

As to FLOOR requests, my only request was NOT to be on the 5th floor as these are the dormer windowed balconies. We stayed on the 3rd floor and it was great. Rather than the elevators, though, we usually took the stairs from our room to the club. (Elevators can be slow). The Concierge decks are on the 3rd floor and you can also access the outside patio from there that overlooks the lake.

We will be back in January with family (we have 4 rooms in the main building). My only room request has been that my MIL (who will be 90) is placed on the same floor as the club as close as possible to the club so that she doesn't have as far to walk.

GF is our favorite! On our last trip we stayed in Conch Key and had a TPV. The view was gorgeous, but even without it that room was easily the nicest room we ever stayed in on Disney property. I don’t think you can go wrong with any room at this resort. You do have to walk outside to Gasparilla. Breakfast there is just ok, but they have some great options for lunch and dinner.

I prefer rooms 4x23-28. They have an extra wet bar and views of poly, vgf, beach pool.

4x13-18 are the other std rooms. 17 and 18 have a view of fireworks and close to lounge. Your elevator to Gaspies is across from 4311.
