Grand Floridian concierge experiences please

We stayed at Sugar Loaf concierge in January 2003. For the$250 rate it was worth it. Not sure I would pay the normal $400 and above rack rate. We had little kids, and GF's monorail location was ideal.
We found Sugar Loaf staff to be very accessible and friendly to kids (both the ruly and unruly).
Having said that, for our next trip we are planning to stay at Poly-Concierge. The kids will be 2 and 6 when we go and the monorail is hard to beat.
We stayed at moderates before, and prefer concierge. We were able to make last minute PS's, and got VIP treatment. (An only 5 minute wait at Rainforest Cafe at 6:30 no less). They were great on preplanning, and helped us through some bumps during our stay.
My advise, pick what delux resort you want to stay at, then do the concierge. We can't wait till the kids are older (i.e. strollerless) to try AKL and BW.
Have a great time.

Tamimcman, Thanks for your post. It is nice to know that a few people like GF> It seems there are so many negative reviews on this resort.
I do have one more question for you if you don't mind. Did you stay in 1 br suites and was the price exceptionally more for the main bldg.? I was quoted a lot higher price and keep going back and forth if I want to do this. Thanks

Thanks to all who have posted. I kind of expected a lot of negative feedback. I hope we like it. I will try to go with a positive attitude and hope for the best!;)

My family consists of myself, husband, and kids aged 16, 12 and 6. I did look into a suite for the extra space, but opted to go with a standard room. It had 2 double beds and the day bed. For the most part, we spent only a small amount of time in our room. The main building lounge was so nice, that we basically used that as our living room and our hotel room was pretty much just to sleep in.

There is a big difference in price between the main building and the lodge. I can only say that you're really just paying for the ambience of staying in the main building. The lounge is bigger there, has a few more offerings and late night snacks and the views are nicer. I felt that we spent enough time at the resort to justify the price. If sipping a glass of wine, looking out over the resort through big beautiful windows or eating a chocolate covered cherry while listening to the orchestra play "A Dream is a wish your heart makes...." is high on your list of things you'd like to do, then you might want to check out a standard room in the main building as opposed to a larger room in the Sugar Loaf lodge. Either way though, I don't think that you'll be disappointed.

The GF is my husband's favorite resort, while the AKL is mine. However, the concierge staff at the AKL is our favorite, while the concierge staff at the GF is our least favorite. Our complaints about the GF's concierge staff span more than one vacation, and the mistakes they made were many. I can only hope that within the past two years, they have made improvements.

We got a free upgrade to lodge concierge last September and found it wonderful.

We wanted to stay an extra night (at the GF, not necessarily in concierge) and asked Irin (our concierge) if it would be possible to stay on at the discounted rate we had (code rate fall fling). She phoned CRO for us and got the OK for the code rate, then spent the better part of a half an hour trying to find us a room and change our ressie from the AKL.

Unfortunately they were full apart from main building concierge which would have cost us too much, but she really did try.

I must say we really enjoyed lodge concierge, so much so that our next visit we'll be spending 5 or 6 nights there.

We stayed in the RPC conceirge for our honeymoon and really loved it. We had an octagon shaped room with views of the castle, Spaceship Earth and in the distance to tower of terror!!! Needless to say the room was AWESOME. Ther service was good, and the food offerings plentiful. I really miss those chocolate covered strawberries....:teeth:
