I was thinking of trying these two restaraunts on my next trip. Anyone that has eaten at either of them, I would appreciate your comments. We would be using the DDP. :goodvibes

Kona Cafe is one of our favorites! :thumbsup2 I have also dined at GF Cafe once and thought it was pretty good.

Our meal at GF Cafe last month was just wonderful! What a lovely place! As for Kona, we have had many, many meals there over the years--and I must concur with the recent opinion of a downward spiral in quality. Still, a good meal. Not what it used to be...

We have eaten at both places and enjoyed them. At Kona, we had breakfast and it was great! At GF Cafe, we had lunch and loved everything about it! So....my suggestion, get a reservation at both - you won't regret it!! :goodvibes

Sad to say that we also felt a decline in the food at Kona on our last trip - sticky wings are still awesome but our meals were a little bit lacking

havent had a bad breakfast there though

we had a lovely breakfast at GF cafe

I have eaten at both places on our last trip in Sept. I like Kona better for the food and GF better for atmosphere.

GFC never been, but kona I have been twice and both time not so good. Once breakfast "tonga toast" yuck (tasted like sugar toast). My dinner I had the pork chop and it was dry and gross, I had sticky wings that were over cooked and my dessert was a hockey puck I ate in one bite. so I would rather try GFC or try to get into OHANAS one of my favorite....

We have never tried GFC, but we've had dinner three times and once lunch at Kona.

Our most recent visit was dinner in August, and all of us were disappointed. Service was slow and inattentive. Food was not great. We all agreed it's slipped, and next year, we'll probably skip it.

We had ADR's at Kona for dinner and changed our mind when we got
there. We had gone many times in the past.....pre-remodel and always
loved the island feel. When we looked this time it was lacking ambience
and that comfy feeling. Just one large room now with somwhat
contemporary feel with the furnishings,, I miss the old room..
We went to eat at the GF Cafe and enjoyed it,,,somewhat,,
but beware,,,the steak (on the menu) does not come with a sauce...but when it was brought to us the steaks were covered in some sort of
un-recognizable sauce. When we asked the server she didn't know what
it was, and went to the kitchen to find out. She looked at the menu
and was surprised that we were right, that it was not suppose to be
covered in an odd "gravy".....We just scrapped it off and actually were
a little dissappointed.
I would skip GF meals altogether,,,,When we stayed there years ago
it was ALL pretty special,,,,but this time we even tried the
buffet with the characters and it was awful.
Beautiful resort though..
I would suggest to take a bus or a boat to WL and eat at the
Whispering Canyon....a very good menu with lots of great choices.:)

I loved Kona for dinner when we went! And I've only eaten at GFC for breakfast...but it was delicious!

We have done both for dinner and prefer GFC. The only thing that I liked at Kona were the wings and the bread but DH loved the teriyaki NY strip.

At Kona every single thing we ate was outstanding, tons of pics and review in my Aug link

we've eaten at both restaurants several times and enjoyed each! kona sits out in the open so it is not very intimate in feel ---GF is not very different than restaurants i go to here in atlanta...there are certainly other choices that may have more ambience but i do think you won't be disappointed in the food at either kona or gf.

We just got back on the 27th and ate dinner at both places while we were there. Kona has been one of our hands down favorite restaurants in Disney, but I have to admit, I thought the service wasn't up to par and we had 2 people waiting on us! The food was good - I did have a problem with a raw scallop. In the Kona's defense, it looked cooked on the outside and they quickly fixed the situation...after I found a server to take it back. I think over 2 hours for dinner with little contact with your server is a little much. The Grand Floridian Cafe was okay decor-wise. We live near the shore so the pastels and such kind of go with the territory. My husband's Grand Floridian burger was extremely undercooked. He ate it anyway and paid dearly for it afterwards. The rest of the food was okay. Just my opinion, but restaurants in Disney seem to have the same problems "normal" restaurants grapple with. My husband probably wouldn't give GFC another shot, but we'll give Kona another chance - it could have been an off night!

Hands down Kona Cafe. We had dinner there! very very good

I had my wedding luncheon at GFC and it was horrid. Not my kind of food and I had issues with the manager before hand.

I may have missed which meal you were planning for ...

but we've eaten at both Kona and GF Cafe for breakfast and really enjoyed both. Kona has a terrific breakfast menu with their signature tonga toast that my hubby always orders whenever we eat there. GF Cafe also had a nice menu and it's a lovely restaurant tucked into the back of the lower level of the Grand Floridian.
