I just returned from a week at GF and I have to say this was by far the best Disney experience my family and I have ever had. I have read a few negative things lately and even before I left on the trip I was worried due to some of the posts I had read, but we could not have been more satisfied.
A couple of examples where the service was excellent...
I lost my perscription sunglasses our first day - the bell staff assisted me in getting them back.
They were so helpful and knew me and my husbands name and called us by name for the rest of the trip.
We wanted to buy a certain clock and waited until our last night and when we went to the gift shop we found out they had sold out. They sent a runner over to the Contempory Resort for us and brought it to our room that night! They refused a tip when I tried to thank them!
Anyway I just thought I would share how great we were treated - we were staying in a "run of house" room but made to feel like very special guests. I sure would return there again in the future.

Glad to hear you had a wonderful experience! Which building were you in?:D

THANK YOU for posting about your great experience! Please see the "gf sugar loaf" thread to read about mine..... please don't hate GF!!! I have posted many times about the wonderful stay I had - I speak very highly of the GF and its staff.

Hi hookedup,

Glad you had a wonderful stay. I'm a little scared of GF RPC concierge after reading other posts. Were you a concierge guest? What room type/view did you have? and if you have time -please tell us about it.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like they went the extra mile to provide excellent service for you.

I to am SO happy to have read your post!

I honeymooned at the GF for 2 weeks back in April - and was worried about staying there to but contrary to what most people on the boards say - it were FANTASTIC!!!

The staff was superb - friendly - and was quick to help us with ANYTHING we needed...when we first arrived to the room - I had learned that they no longer carry the same bathrobes as they did 10 years ago (they were *more fluffy* before) anyhow -I called housekeeping and they said "sorry - we no longer carry them" well about 4 hours later there was a knock on the door - the guy from housekeeping carrying 2 of the fluffy robes..."I came across 2 of the old ones - thought that you might want to use them..." I was overwhelmed!!!

Our firrst morning there, we woke up to *screaming children* in the room next to us, so we called the room assignor and complained...he said that he would *take care of it* so while we spent the day at the Magic Kingdom, they switched us to another King bed room. Upon our return at the end of the day - we were disappointed in finding the garden view wasn't nearly as nice as our first room, so we called the front desk and she said "I can give you a REALLY great view if you want ot give up the King bed -I only have 17 and they are hard to come by" we said "no problem" and she upgraded us to lagoon view in Big Pine Key for the rest of our stay!!!!

The housekeeping was awesome, they staff helped with each and every priority seating that we needed and were always able to answer all of our questions...furthermore, after my DH and I made a HUGE mistake by making tons of long distance calls to our families (our bill in long distance calls was over 500 dollars!!!) We went to the front desk and complained...the GF CM said that I signed to the phone bill charges when I checked in ...he said 'let me see what I can do'...he went to speak to a manager and upon his return, he got our phone bill cut in half...and then the next day we saw the CM Holly (the girl who checked us in) she asked how things were going and we told her of our disappointment over the phone bill (The GF staff failed to mention how high the ATT rates at their resorts were) she went on to suggest that we
get a phone card over at the MK for any further long distance calls...later in the day when we returned to our room there was a message from Holly stating that she spoke to her management regarding our disappointment and got the bill cut in half AGAIN...we were EXTREMELLY pleased with the outcome of these charges...

I don't know about anyone else - but we were pampered and treated like royalty and never got tired of being told to have a "Grand day"...2 thumbs way way up for us...if I could afford it - I would stay at the GF on all of my WDW vacations...

I've come to the conclusion maybe there are so many negative comments about the GF is perhaps because people's expectations might just be to high.

It's great to hear some positive experiences at the GF!
Perhaps it's just the concerige part that is not great. Thanks for sharing the info!:D

We love the GF and I'm planning to stay there this January.

What is a 'run of the house' room? I've stayed there 4 times and I've never heard that.

Hi aahmom1 -

A hotel can book "run of the house" rooms for a specified price (usually cheaper than other categories) if they choose to. What it means is that the guest can end up with anything - usually it's supposed to be the best available class of room, at the time of check-in, for the length of your stay.

Have a good afternoon :)

we also had a wonderfully magical time at the sugarloaf concierge at the GF this summer...
it's now our favorite WDW resort...
this was our first stay there (after having stayed at every other resort at least once except for the CBR......for some reason we've stayed at the YC and BC many many times.....but GF has now climbed to the top for us)....

hi, so nice to hear of your good experience with the gf. one question, please. was your room cool enough? i'm hearing so much about the dreaded motion sensors on the ac units in the rooms. any complaints there? which building were you i? thanks in advance

so nice to hear something positive of the GF! Sure makes me feel better about our December stay! Can't wait! Would also like to hear more about your room/location!

:smooth:

Glad you had a great time! One day I hope to stay there too.

Glad you had such a great experience!!! That sounds like Disney for you!!! Don't you just love the magic?!!! :)

I have to agree.. just returned on Monday and had a great time! The staff was wonderful!

Our family, also, has stayed twice at the GF. We only have rave reviews. Although our trips were in '98 and '00, we had no problems whatsoever. And one trip was complimentary concierge, just because I requested Conch Key and it happened to be concierge due to the renovations in the main bldg. It is just a wonderful, fabulous, gorgeous hotel.
