I’m claustrophobic and I can’t do elevators unless they glass enclosed like at the GF. Does anyone know if grand destino has glass elevators or just regular ones?

Yup, regular elevators, not glass enclosed.

They also have a fairly unique setup where you enter your desired floor on a keypad in the elevator lobby and it tells you which elevator to get on. When it arrives, you get on and it takes you to your floor without you having to push any further buttons.

I agree! It's a regular one!

I hope this doesn’t come across as negative, but I think the Gran Destiny elevators would be the worse for someone who is claustrophobic. You enter your floor when you are at the lobby and the elevator just takes you. If you decide you are getting claustrophobic and need to get off at the next floor-you can’t.

Good point but my 2 stays I found the trip so fast that you’d be off before you know it.

Exactly, they are some of the fastest elevators on the market and smoothest. I'm in commercial construction and spoke to my elevator rep about them after our return from our trip to GDT. Ha
They are huge elevators as well.
The biggest reasons for elevators going down, door component issues. Hence, the less the door opens and shuts, the less chances of having issues. The old style, people would constantly stick their hands in, to reopen closing doors.

My room this past weekend wrapped around the elevator bank. I can tell you from the constant whizzing noise just how fast they are. 8-)

I am kidding.... mostly.

Did you stay there? Did you like it? Did you review? I missed it! Just wondering if you liked hotel overall - we aren't staying CL, just a regular Tower water view. :)

Stayed there this past weekend. First time in the Tower and first time at Coronado. Had never even been to the resort before, only driven past.

My Disney travels have mostly been at the deluxes, with stays at AoA and CB as well, so that is more or less my frame of reference. I have to say, I was really surprised/impressed at GDT/Coronado - we had an excellent stay... and for the price this place will definitely be on the "will do again" list in the future. Absolutely beautiful grounds, abundant food options, the Tower is so fresh/new. DW and I could have had multiple date nights around property with the various dining options - water front, roof top, etc.

I also came to appreciate how Coronado is a relatively central spot to the parks. Not too close or too far from anything, and most park trips are a straight shot away with just a few turns / lights.

It was just a three night stay and I'm sure there are a few flaws that were hidden with the excitement of something new, but I'd give it two thumbs up for sure.

(Only quasi-material issue with the room was the fire alarm speakers emitted a high pitch electronic noise. Sounds weird, but it was noticeable and I've seen other people report this. Not sure how prevalent it is across most of the tower?)

All of the elevators at the Grand Floridian are not glass enclosed except for the one in the main building lobby that only goes to the 2nd floor. There isn't a resort in Disney World that has glass paned elevators that service hotel rooms.
