On our only previous Western cruise, we were unable to dock at GC due to the weather....

1) Does the ship tender at GC or dock?
2) How is the shopping at GC? Is the shopping area close by, within walking distance?
3) What is GC known for in terms of shopping buys?

On our Thanksgaiving 04 sailing we tendered, shopping is right where you get off the boat but, in November there were no "good buys" due to the hurricane devistation. I believe they are know for their "black lava" or something like jewelry.....

You tender at GC. Very easy, very organized and you get great picks of the ship both coming and going on the tender.

The shopping is very close, within walking distance. GC is a wealthier port so we did not find "bargains". They have plenty of upscale stores. Tortuga rum cakes and flavored rums are a must to try while you are there.

You can pick up the two hour taxi tour on your own, very easily right at the top of the dock at the taxi dispatch station. Takes you to hell, the turtle farm and gives you a good overview of the island. Excellent! Rackham's is oceanside a bit up, it is a restaurant/bar/gift shop type place, we found great souveniers in their.

There were a lot of shops where you disembarked. Fortunately for our teens, the Hard Rock cafe was very close by. We had to purchase pins. We picked up Rum Cakes -- which were very good. They also sold GC Rum, but you had to buy it early in the day because you aren't allowed to carry it onto the Magic for some reason.

Hard Rock is a very short walking distance - Very easy to spot -

Hard Rock is very close to dock..turn right at top of dock...it will be across the street, not but a block or so down. You can't miss it.
