Has anyone used the public transportation on Grand Cayman? I was thinking of booking the 1/2 day snorkeling trip w/Captain Marvin (10am-1pm) then taking the bus to the Turtle Farm afterwards. It looks like the Yellow Route 1 bus goes right to the Turtle Farm for about $2 USD per person each way.

We used public transportation in Nassau and had a blast (not to mention saved $$)!

We took public transportation in GC in 2003. It was fine-- a minivan with air. We went out to the turtle farm pretty quickly, but getting back took longer because the route back to the main terminal was long. It got crowded, but we take public transit in the city all the time so it wasn't a big deal to us. If you took it in Nassau, I'm sure you won't be shocked/freaked out by sharing a minivan with strangers in GC.

Have fun,
Julie

Do you remember how long it took to go through the Turtle Farm and get back to the ship? I know the last tender leaves GC at 4:30. We don't get done with our snorkeling tour until 1, and I am assuming we could get on the bus to the TF at around 1:30-2:00. Will that leave us enough time to take the tour and get back to the ship? Am I correct to assume 30 minutes to get there, 30 minutes to take the tour, 60 minutes to return? If it is cutting it close, I'd rather take an earlier snorkeling tour...

Also, how easy is it to find/get to the bus station or can you just get on anywhere along the route?

I think the 60 minutes back is a good time frame. I don't think it took that long, and we traveled back in the middle of the day-- around noon I think. We caught the bus right in town. There's a terminal not far from the dock. When we got to the turtle farm, the driver told us to wait out by the road on the side. There was no sign or kiosk or anything. We just waited for the right van to come. I'm sure they can tell you inside exactly where to stand.

All that said, we were really paranoid about missing the ship, but that's the way we are. As it was, we were eating tacos by the pool around 2 after going to the museum, turtle farm, then shopping.
