grand canyon excursion

But to not attempt it at all? Heck no!

Unfortantely, the penalty for failure is a $10,000.00 helicopter ride! Rescues happen everyday. You may be able to hike, but perhaps someone in your party in not quite in the best physical condition. Do you really want to risk the lives of first responders? Please keep that in mind.

A partial hike can be done safely, but be prepared. Do no attempt on a spur of the moment decision because real danger does exist.

Less accidents happen on longer hikes to the Phantom Ranch because people are more prepared.

Did I mention the rattlesnake that I once found on the trail? He was awful cute, showing off a rare shade of pink found only in the Canyon.

Paul - Have you been on the Southwest Splendors trip, or any Adventures by Disney trip? The guides on these trips are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and gave us lots of useful advice about being in the canyon, including important warnings about safety. I don't think anyone here is talking about risking the lives of first responders - they are just curious about walking down a bit into the canyon on one of the afternoons when we have the time to do it, in between the various programmed parts of the tour.

It is extremely important that you following the guides advice!

If you don't follow warnings about safety, you certainly risk your own life and possibly others. Most problems occur when someone goes too far down the trail and can't walk back. This happens to someone almost everyday in the Canyon.
