What are the chances of getting a 2 BR villa at Grand Californian for Xmas Week next year? We cannot book till 7 months out.

Since there are only 46 2-bedrooms available (23 dedicated & 23 lock-offs), most likely little to none. The lock-offs are made up of a 1-bedroom & studio w/interior connecting door and when someone books either a 1-bedroom or a studio, the number of available 2-bedrooms is reduced by 1.

Your best strategy would be to buy a transfer of VGC points into your account, or just to rent a VGC reservation from a member there and rent out your own points to cover most or all of the trip cost outlay.

Agree it is extremely unlikely you will get VGC at Christmas for a 2BR without booking during early home resort window. If you're set on it, you'd better book it this coming January.

A couple of years ago I was able to book a dedicated 2br for the Christmas week at the 7th month window.

We were successful booking a week in a 2BR for Easter/ spring break. It was awesome. Good luck!

I too would love to go to Disneyland during x-mas week, only if we could trade with a Grand Californian owner wanting to come to Aulani for x-mas or New Years week and pay cash for the difference. A win win situation, that would be really sweet.

With DVC, high season weeks are not always the most difficult to book, due to the higher points requirement.
In the past I've monitored VGC for a few months before being able to make the reservation I wanted at 7 months and I noticed that Easter week was much easier to score than September. DVC member often try to score the most convenient weeks.
No idea about Christmas week, though, I'm sorry.

I'm 3 for 3 at exactly 7 months.

2011: early May studio
2012: late September studio
2013: early August 1 bedroom

What days of the week do you typically try to book? I always arrive Friday or Saturday. Midweek arrivals seem to be harder.

You should log in on the website and try to book exactly at 8am when reservations open. 8:01 can be one minute too late.
Also, if you have a bit more points than needed, try to book a couple of days in advance as well, booking one or two days you don't need and then drop them later. This way you'll have a bit more chances.
