I was hoping all you experts could answer a question for me please.
How do you get the right to purchase/become a founding member? I saw a thread about certain people getting notice of sales dates, but am wondering how to go about this?

My understanding is that you had to make your initial DVC purchase through a California-based guide.

You have to buy points for an existing DVC while in California.

DebbieB is correct. We received the opportunity to become founding members at GCV with our AKV add-on that we did at DL in May. This means that we have 60 days to purchase before other members can. However, we are limited to 160 points maximum during that time.
