Grand Californian - Which Room?

I've never stayed at this hotel before - what do you see in a standard view room?

They do give you a map upon check in. What stairs? The outside stairs that drop you out by the Sephora store?

I was just picking up on a previous post about going down the stairs to get out side with out doing the long halls. Just curious where exactly are they located.

I think I completely missed those stairs when we had our long, long sojourn down the hallways of the GCH to get to the DTD-view room! I am trying to remember where exactly we were and what we were overlooking in DTD. I know the walk was surprising - especially since we were lugging our bags with us rather than having the Bell desk send them up - but once we got there and saw the view and the great fireworks display, it was worth it.

When you have DTD view, you just keep going down the hall to the stairs exit. I don't think they left you by Sephora. It was by World of Disney and... I wanna say.. La Brea Bakery?

You can't use them to get back up to the room but from room to DL, it's a huge timesaver.

My first response with the Grand Cali (our absolute favorite Disney hotel -- east coasters here)...first response would be ANY ROOM AS LONG AS IT'S THE GRAND CALI.

Ok, I'm calm now.

Our last stay we overlooked the Briza Courtyard just above the monorail line. We were down far enough to see through into DTD. At night we enjoyed the sounds from DTD ....but they were muffled in the distance sounds. During the day we enjoyed the courtyard.

What a beautiful hotel!

Next time it will be in the new DVC section with friends.....now THAT will be something fun!

Could you have not just grabbed a bell cart and rolled your luggage to your room?

I can't remember why we didn't have a bell cart. I don't remember whose idea that was. It was a long time ago. I think we must have thought we wouldn't need the bell cart because the room would be close, but we found out differently! Oh well, you live, you learn, right? Now I know better and am prepared!!

I thought someone posted a hotel map but I don't see it now.....well let's see, I can't remember what room we were in at all (we did GCH in Nov 07) but the stairs were to our left when we exited our DTD view room. So we walked down a little ways and then went down the stairs and they did put us out right at the edge of DTD. And no, we couldn't use them to get back up to our room, the room only open from the stairway and not back up to it.

Hi again Jack, yes the map is confusing..you are looking at the map from the second floor, I put some notes on the map, hope it helps a little. Our rooms had two queen beds. And my DH just told me we were on the 4th floor.

Ok, so looking at the map we were on the DTD side, close to where disneyanajc circled a room, we walked out of our room and to the left, the stairs were on the right. They were very easy to find and down you went and bam, you were right next to Sephora. I asked the girls and they confirmed it was Sephora.

Thanks for reminding me where this map was, that's what I get for skimming at work. lol

We (a family of 4 with a 2 year old) stayed at the Grand this past April for the first time and loved it.(We usually do the Paradise Pier but now will be doing the VGC since we loved it so much)
We went with the standard view since we were staying a week and it was an additional 1400 for a park view (that is a lot of food and toys). We were in room 403, which we loved. The room was very close to elevators, right outside our room we had a great view of the lobby down below and sounds of the piano player in the evening, the view outside from the deck was of the Disneyland hotel and the parking lot but the rooms where larger than most (as you can tell by the diagram) and we loved that. Other rooms appeared much smaller than ours, by atleast 60-80 sq ft, which doesn't seem like much but when your room is only 350 sq ft another 60-80 isn't shabby. If you don't plan on spending time in your room I would go with a standard view but if money isn't an issue and you plan on being in you room a lot than go with a suite or atleast a better view and enjoy!!!!!

The GC is so nice! We came back to our room, my DS bday, and they had this set up for him. He loved it!
