I'm interested in purchasing some points at the Grand Californian Villas. I was going to call my guide, but I wanted to get some information before I do. I've been reading different things on this board. Some posts say the points are not yet available for sale, but other posts are saying the place is already sold out. Which is it? Should I bother calling my guide?

When talking to my guide a few weeks ago (in California), she said the GCV are not up for sale yet. I would get an e-mail or postcard when points are available for purchase. She didn't know about the time they would be offered.

GCV is not yet available for sale and no announcement has been made about when that will happen.

Stay Tuned!

The -sold out- posts you have read about deals with the founding memeber program being run in California. Seems is you buy 160 points of either SSR or AKL IN California, you get first crack at GCV and since GCV is such a small resort, some people fear all the points will be snatched up by the Califorina people with none left over for other members.

I was out there last week, and spoke with 4 different people at 4 different kiosks - and each one told me that the models would be open in early May, and sales would "most likely" start in late April or early May.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll give my guide a call and tell him what I want. If I give him my credit card information now, perhaps he can put the order through right away when the points do become available.

But it sounds like DVC needn't even bother with a model if the place will sell out fairly quickly.

Just another thought - I just got off the phone with my guide, Theresa, and she said that they are expecting GCV to open in Aug. 09 - and sales will start sometime this year, but she wouldn't commit to early May like the guides on site at DL/DCA/DLH/GCH did last week. I guess you just gotta figure it will be anytime this spring or summer, since AKV's Kidani has an "open date" of Spring 09 and sales have been going for a while now.

..never mind this one..hit wrong button

I hope the models will be open in early May since I'll be there the 14th. Did you mean THIS May for sales?? When they have barely begun construction?? I thought it would be at least May of 09 for sales to begin..

I spoke with my guide to get "on the list". I guess that means they will contact you first when they have info. He told me about December of this year. I am going the beginning of May this year so here's hoping for the models to be open.

THIS May is what they (4 different reps) said on-site (2 folks in DTD, 1 in the GCH, and 1 inside DL) for sales to start. Sometime THIS year is what my guide told me for sales to start. They all said the models would be open in May - but did NOT give a date. Obviously this can change though.

So we just purchased AKV through the DVC in Anaheim....since we bought in Anaheim we have the opportunity to purchase as founding members of the California Villas. Per our written agreement, we will be able to purchase a max of 160 points and our purchase period will be approx 30-60 prior to public pre-sales begin. When we were there in February, our guide indicated constructions was ahead of schedule and they expected pre-sales to begin later this year. She wouldn't commit to a date. She said they are also trying very hard to get point charts too.

We just bought yesterday at DL and our guide said Memorial Day weekend is the grand opening for the models. She is hoping they will at least have a points chart available by then but does not expect them to be selling points anytime soon.

I had a great view of the GCH construction a couple of weeks ago from my room at the PP hotel. It looks like they've got quite a bit done. When I saw the construction in December, the only thing done was the grading, now there is a frame of a building there, and I can tell the floors of the building.

Wow, so soon! I am so glad! We are just dying to get this purchase done and start planning our trips. My guide in January told me sales begin in the fall with Summer 09 occupancy! I guess they may be moving that forward! YIPEE! We will again be founding fathers (and mothers)! Katherine

Holy cow..thanks for the clarification. I guess I better ramp up the saving mode..I was sort of seeing next year as when I needed the cash :scared1:

I don't really *need* any more points. However, I almost feel like I've got no choice but to pick up some Grand Californian points. I adore the Grand Californian, and I've used my DVC points to stay there twice (well worth it). Once the villas open, I expect that members will no longer be able to stay in the hotel part with points. Because most West Coast DVCers don't get to Florida that often, I also expect that villa occupancy will be pretty high just from owners. Therefore, if I want to stay at the Grand Californian about once every other year, which I very much do, I think I've pretty much to to have some points there to do so.

Even with no point chart, I think 30 points should probably meet my needs.
