Grand Californian- should we stay there?

If you have booked a theme park view, request the new wing!!! The view we had of Paradise Pier was AMAZING! Right at Mulllholland Madness ride.

But I would think that even a standard view would be good in the new wing. We loved it there. That is what I would request if we stayed again (oh and a high floor)

I have posted this picture of The Grand Californian view room a few times from our recent December trip, but here it is again. :)

Here is a Theme Park view at night from the East wing above the World of Disney. Those white streaks on the right are from the monorail, and the building on the left is Soaring. Durring the day you can see people in the queue. This wing also as the easy access to the shortcut fire escape that leads out near LaBrea Bakery, but getting back to your room at night could be a long walk.

Thanks for the pictures and comments. We have decided we are going to stay at the GC. I'm crossing my fingers for a room only discount for October.:goodvibes

I've spent at least one night at each of the 3 DLR hotels ~ GCH is my least favorite ~ DLH is my favorite, it feels the most "Disney" ~ GCH is to $$$, the rooms are small and dark, everyone should check out the Grand, but no need to stay there IMO.

I agree. Last September I stayed for three nights at the GCH. The lobby and common areas are very nice indeed. While there's nothing wrong with the rooms, they're not exceptional. As they should be, given the rate that Disney asks. I don't regret staying there but I wouldn't spend the money again. I've stayed twice at the Candy Cane Inn. It's about half the price and the rooms are about as nice as the GCH. I'm going to DL next month and will stay at HoJo for the first time at around $100 per night. I've only ever heard good things.

I should mention that our rooms didn't face the park. Might have made it nicer.

I will try DLH at some point in the future, though :-).

Hope this helps.

Here is a picture of the room's beds.It is much prettier in person. The same architect that designed Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge designed The Grand Californian.
