I am making my first trip ever to Disneyland later this month and am staying at this resort.

I am really hoping for a view of the monorail. Any suggestions as to which room/section of this resort I should request? I am currently booked for Concierge theme park view.

Can anyone also tell me what makes this resort so special?

Thank you kindly in advance.

don't know about the monorail view, we had theme park view, and loved it.

You didn't mention if you have ever been to WDW. If you have, the GC is very similar to Fort Wilderness lodge at WDW, and not quite as good as the Animal Kingdom lodge. Designs of all 3 resorts are very, very similar. Amenities are somewhat the same.

The biggest difference, by far is just how close GC is to Downtown Disney, DL and GCA. Basically, there are 2 exits (aside from front door) to GC, and 1 exits out to Downtown Disney, the other to GCA. You are about a 5 minute walk from the front entrance of DL and GCA.

We had a great time this past February, and hope you do as well.

Our room had this view:

We'll stay there for the first time in October but have walked thru a million times. Very woodsy - have you ever been to one of the upscale ski resorts with the extreme woodwork? Feels like that to me. Rooms are being revamped now too to include DVD players. I think someone said the mini-bar was being taken out but the set-up was much better for families.

We had room 4446, which was a theme park view. The monorail passed just below our balcony.

We had two queen beds. The room was a little small, but the set-up worked really well. We liked this hotel better than DLH. And yes, it did remind us of Animal Kingdom Lodge. The pools were great, the service was wonderful. You will not be disappointed! :thumbsup2

If you have paid for a Concierge Theme Park View, a Concierge Monorail View (or Standard View) would be a downgrade and cheaper. If that is the view that you want, see if you can arrange to make the change as it is less expensive than the view you are currently booked in to. Your view of course will depend on the bedding you have requested. There are no theme park views with 2 queen beds and a day bed and only 1 (a GP view) with a bunk.

With a Concierge Theme Park View you will most likely be facing the Paradise Pier (like the picure above) and on the 6th floor which is the Concierge level. There are some limited Grizzly Peak Views. This is because there are no DTD views on the 6th floor so no way to wrap around that view (so no such room as 6446 (or 6th floor room) as someone suggested.

If you have paid for the CTPV, stay with it. It is the best view available at the hotel.

Hope this helps.

Grand Californian, Wildnerness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are all the same architect, I'm told. If you've seen Wilderness Lodge, just make it a little less North Woodsy and more Mission style. Be sure and have breakfast at Storytellers Cafe (heck, have one of each meal there). And White Water Snacks has the best food of any Disney counter service, anywhere, I think. (OK, maybe not Mara, as there are those Zebra Domes!)

Be sure and hit the concierge lounge on your way out to the parks and grab some bottled water. Between grabbing breakfast there and a bottle of water our party of five covered the cost of the concierge upgrade!
