Grand Californian Question

We're staying at the Grand Californian starting in a couple days. So excited! I know there have been some negative reviews lately, but I am not going to let that put a damper on my excitement!

I have a few questions:
1. Internet: We're arriving about 10am. I know we can leave our stuff with bell services and come back later for the room, but my husband may need to check email on his laptop, before we head to the parks. Is there internet in the lobby areas? I know that internet is included in the resort fee, but does it only start after you get your room? Is it one of those things where you get a code to use during your stay? Anyone know?

2. Pools: Is there a hot tub by the pool? How late is the pool area open?

3. We requested a detox cleaning, but didnt ask how much it is. Does anyone know? Regardless, we need it because my daughter has an allergy to mold & I wanted to make sure they got as much of it off as possible!

4. How long of a walk is it from Goofys Kitchen to the Grand Californian? Walking just a normal pace? Trying to work out some timing issues.

Thank you!

The only answers I have are:
1) GC has a hot tub. Not sure on the hours during winter but I know people were swimming after dark recently - not very helpful I know.

2) I'd say the walk to/from Goofy's is no more than 10 minutes at a normal pace. If I were doing it, it would definitely be no more than 5 minutes but I've learned on these boards that many, many people walk much more slowly than me.

Sorry - I've never detoxed a room or used the internet at the GC.
Have a great stay...I love that hotel!

GCH hot tub and pool are open 'til 10pm.

Goofy's definitely isn't more than 10 minutes. You'd be smelling the roses if it takes that long. PS after your done dining be sure to checkout the memorabilia in DLH. Definitely worth the time and effort. The conceptual art for some of the rides is amazing!

I believe internet is available at least around the pools. Be sure to ask at the front desk.

As for detoxing the room...my opinion is that you should never have to pay for a room to be clean. You are paying enough in the room rate to get a mold free room. Plus if they did not disclose how much up front then they can't charge you. That being said, if the request was not guaranteed in writing it may not happen at all.

There is internet wireless reception in the GCH lobby. You don't have to be a guest to access it, obviously. ;)

We were at GCH Nov 25-28. I was nervous about the stay after reading some negative reviews, but I must say we had a great experience. I had four rooms reserved for our party and two of the groups (including us) arrived early and checked in around 9am. I was thrilled (and somewhat shocked) when we got our rooms before 11am! Plus we got our request for a bunk bed in the location of the hotel that we desired. The other later arrivers got their rooms by 4pm.

Housekeeping was fine, though the halls were a bit messy sometimes, just because of all the traffic I think. The lobby with the Christmas tree was gorgeous. We even got a complimentary balloon bouquet and signed photo for my niece's 16th birthday.

We stayed Nov 24 at the Sheraton Park a loooong block away from the themepark. I like Sheraton as I am a preferred corporate guest, so generally get an upgrade and can check out late (at 4pm). But still, I don't think it compares to GCH. You just feel more a part of the magic at GCH. :goodvibes
