Grand Californian DCA line and construction?

I heard they changed the policy recently on the line to DCA and I was wondering what the new policy was? And if this new policy helped with the line to DCA in the morning? Also how bad is the construction and where is the construction right now? Also does anyone know what is left to remodel?

The "new policy" is no one enters the front door unless they are checking in/have a room key. This means if you are staying at PPH or DLH, you need to pass security by Earl of Sandwich, then you can enter GCH at the DTD entrance to use the access gate inside the Grand. However, the line is just as bad. Last week the line wrapped around a few times and seemed really long (we were headed to Mandara.) That said, the front gate is faster. You can use the Grand to exit the park.

As for the construction, as of last week, it was mainly in the corner where the gift shop is and also the rooms to the right when you come out of the elevator on the various floors.

How is the security line to get into downtown Disney from the Grand? I assume the Grand has its own? Or do people staying at the Grand walk to the security over by Earl of Sandwich the way Disneyland hotel guests would to get into downtown Disney.

It is fairly easy. It is in the walkway between Sephora and Disney 365. It rarely has more than 2-3 people.

How is it early in the morning before rope drop? How much time should we plan to wait in security on a busy morning?

When we went thru on July 1, there wasn't much of a wait at 735a. 5 mins?
