Thinking of changing from a 2 bedroom suite at the DLH, to 2 connecting rooms at the Grand. Are there many of these rooms? If we aren't arriving until 3, are we less likely to get this request granted?

Yes, there are quite a few connecting rooms at the GCH. We do it that way everytime. You should put the request in with your reservation that you want connecting rooms. We have always checked in early , like between 6 and 7am to get our room keys to use for EMH. We have never had a problem getting connecting rooms. You may run into difficulty checking in that late , since most of the rooms will have been assigned and there may not be two left that are connecting. You should ask if you can check in over the phone at 6 or 7am

I suggest avoiding any rooms overlooking DTD. We got one once and requested a change because of the noise. The drums were beating non stop and when asked at the front desk they said it goes on until 10pm. Even with the balcony door closed in was annoying . We really like the Courtyard View. The monorail goes right thru there but it is quiet .

If having connecting rooms is a must I'm not sure I would gamble as you have a 50/50 chance of getting them. As you know, they will not guarantee anything. If it is just something that would be nice than you could roll the dice and just prepare to be separated. It was always a deal breaker for us so we always went with the suites.

The location of the Grand is always a little tempting for me but in the end we prefer the DLH. Once we are back at the hotel I'm always glad we chose the DLH but when I'm tired of walking I do wish we were stopping at the Grand.

Just as an FYI.....there is a Hugh difference is the amount of space between the two room suites and two connecting rooms so if you are concerned with space the connecting rooms will not be the same as the suite. Either choice will make for a great vacation.

I agree adding the request with your reservation.
When I have a special request I add it to the reservation.

I call a week after making the reservation to check and see if the request is there.
Then I wait until about a week before the arrival date and I call again.
I call the day before and again early the morning of check-in.
So far this has always worked for me.

We've had two standard connecting rooms at the GCH and it was really nice.

When are you going? The time of the year and how crowded it is could be a big factor. I have been taking the family almost every year since 2002, always staying at the GCH and always getting connecting rooms and never had a problem, but like 5 for Mickey said there is no guarantee. I remember something about they put a priority on keeping the family close which would mean connecting rooms. Ask if you can check in and confirm your reservation over the phone early in the morning of your arrival date and put emphasis on connecting rooms

We have had connecting rooms twice at GCH--only requested twice, so we are 2 for 2. Once we had 2 queens connected to 2 queens. The other time we had a bunk bed room connected to 2 queens. All exactly what we requested. Wonderful both times!

Looks good. I didn`t find any special events. The blockout calendar for some APs shows Spring Breaks starting March 18 thru the end of the month.
