Grand Californian Booking Help Please....

I am at the seven month window and have been attempting to book a one bedroom or studio at the GC at 8:00 am EST for the last ten days. A few times, I have been able to select a one bedroom and then I am told I do not have enough points to book the reservation. The reservation is usually for about 250 points. My point allocation is below...none are in holding. Shouldn't I be able to use 2022, 2023 and borrow from 2024? I have borrowed while making reservations in the past and I am unsure what I am doing incorrectly? I don't want to loose another reservation and would greatly appreciate some wisdom/guidance here.

If my math is correct, you currently only have 228 points available for a reservation in June/July as those months are still in the August 22 use year. You can only use your current 113 and borrow the 115 from 2023 right now. If you wait until after August 1st, 2023 to take your trip, you can bank the 2022 points to 2023 and then borrow from 2024.

It’s based on the UY of the trip and not calendar year.

Your trip in June 2023 is in your Aug 2022 UY.

That means you can book with banked 2021 points..you don’t have them though.. 2022 points and borrow 2023 points to finish

2024 Uy points can only be borrowed for trips that are in your 2023 UY..which doesn’t start until August 1st, 2023.

So, you have 228 to use for a June 2023 trip.

You can buy up to 24 one time use points at $19 per point which would get you just over the 250 you need.

I would recommend booking as many days as you have points for at 8AM, then calling for OTU points.

Thank you for your help! I get it now….I will try again tomorrow morning using only 228 points and then try to purchase 24 extra points. Does anyone know what would happen to the 24 points if the June trip had to be cancelled with an August use year?

I think the One Time Use points are use or lose. They're just for that one reservation - but we've not actually bought any. Also, remember, if you have to borrow any 2023 UY points for the 2022 reservation (which it looks like you will need to do), those points must then be used by the end of July, 2023 - you cannot move them back to 2023 UY. So if you make this reservation, you're making a pretty good commitment to the trip. Borrowing is a transaction that cannot be undone.

OTUP must be used during the UY of the trip they’re bought for. So if the trip falls in your 2022 UY, they’d have to be used by July 31, 2023.

My daughter is a nurse and sometimes the schedule doesn’t work out as we hope….so that’s our concern with modifying a trip.
We could try for August - but I don’t think I can book a June trip and cancel and rebook for August, correct?

Correct - with an August UY, any banked, borrowed or one-time use points would have to be used by July 31. If you cancelled after your banking deadline or 30 days or less from checkin, the current UY (2022) points would have to be used by then too.
