Hi,

We are hoping to visit the Grand Californian this summer, but I have heard that it isn't ideal for families of five. Is it true that you simply get given a sleeping bag for the fifth guest? Are there no roll-away beds? I am hoping we won't need two rooms.....

Thanks so much!

Last year we had a room with 1 queen bed and a bunk bed with a pull-out trundle that easily held the 5 of us! There was no need for a sleeping bag. We didn't have a great view as I recall, but we did get the discounted AP rate...I think this room was considered to be a standard room.

We have only had to use their sleeping bag on one of our visits. We usually get a standard view room which have the option of two queen beds and a daybed. Those rooms are also slightly larger than the rooms that don't have the daybed.

They can't guarantee any particular room configuration when you make your reservation but we have always been given the 2 queens/daybed room except for the time I was traveling w/out DH and just had three of my kids with me.

HTH!

Thank you! I wasn't aware of the 2 Queens + Daybed configuration. That will be perfect so I will get it noted on the reservation.

Thanks again!

Never been, but as a backup you could always bring a twin sized air-mattress. . . just a thought - hope you won't need it!

Just know that noting it on the reservation will make it a request not a guarantee. In the event you do not get a bunkbed or daybed room, a sleeping bag with a pad is what you will get. They do not have rollaways at the GCH unfortunately. That is why I prefer the DLH over the GCH, they have free rollaways for any room that does not have a daybed. But the location of the GCH cannot be beat. I am sure it will be fine, I think they try very hard to give families those rooms with bunks or daybeds.

Our ohana of five stayed at the Grand this past Christmas in a room with two beds and a daybed. We also called housekeeping for sleeping bags for the kids to get cozy. It was so comfortable we would fight to use the sleeping bags. The sleeping bags come with a thin futon mattress too. I loved the sleeping bags more than the bed. I wish I took a picture.
