Grand Cal, seriously $800 .....

Outside of general public offers of discounts from Disney, what other discounts are you guys getting? If you are not a Magic Key or Cali resident, what are the other discounts besides convention rates and Dapper Days?

I typically rent DCV points or confirmed reservations for GCH villa studio which is usually around $350 to $500 a night depending on the person and deal I get.
I also use Dapper day rates as stated above , Disney Visa promos , Gay day rates as well.

I booked Dapper day for GCH hotel room for April 20th - 23rd and was able to upgrade to Club Level for an extra $250/night by calling group reservations every day for two weeks and finally was available. I'm a magic key holder so take breaks usually so the value of the lounge is worth the extra upcharge and taking a co worker as well for her first GCH stay so an extra splurge. Usually I pay around $375 to $450 for a discount rate depending on what days and season.

They also recently announced that Disney+ subscribers get 25% discount on select hotels.

This is for WDW resorts, not DL resorts, from what I can tell. I don't necessarily understand how TWDC goes about its deals and discounts between WDW and DL. They seem to be different for each park and I'm sure TWDC has a reason why one park gets a discount and the other park doesn't but I don't understand the differentiation. Don't Disney+ subscribers have interest in visiting DL too?

It's just a different game in WDW. So many visitors come from out of town and staying on property is so much of the overall experience. DLR on the other hand is mostly a locals playground and there are so many good neighborhood hotels that are closer than PP and DLH. There is also hardly any perks and benefits to staying on property in Anaheim.

Military. It's 40% off. Scored 3 nights around 4th of July, Club Level, for less than we paid rack rate last year for a standard room.

We have paid over $800.00 a night but only once or twice. You’re paying for location, location and location which is great. We love the Hearthstone bar but none of that makes it worth that price “to us”. The rooms are average at best. There are better hotels close by but again you don’t have the convenience of the short walk and easy entry into DCA. We also had a negative experience a few months ago and Disney could have cared less. $500.00 is now about the most that we will pay to stay here. It’s even harder to pull the trigger when we get rooms for free using our Amex points.

Agree! I never agreed with comparing DVC to rack rates. People rarely EVER pay non-discounted rack rates at a Disney hotel unless you're completely clueless. Given that, there is something to be said about those who bought VGC in 2010 at $100pp. 12 years of amazing stays at that hotel for the price of annual dues. And their contracts are now worth $300pp in the resale market. If that's not a great deal, I don't know what is.
We bought our DVC points at GCH in 2010 and 2011. Can't remember how much it was per point, but I had no idea that it had gone up so much in value since then. I have only stayed at a 3-br villa once years ago for family reunion. Every other time was either in the regular room at GCH or at the DLH by converting my vacation points to reservation points. Never could plan far enough out to get a villa again at GCH. :(

There are some on these boards that would choke on their salads if they ever heard that. The conversion rate cannot be very good. You must have lots of VGC points. I wish I had bought back in 2010. That's awesome.

Ooooo man, when I hear someone converting VGC points to DLH reservations, I just envision this:

Alas, I was a poor grad student in 2010. I thought I was overpaying years later buying a resale contract for $150 per point, but apparently that price went soarin' a few years later!

Our trips were never more than 3-4 days stay at the hotels anyway, but that was the only way to get the rooms for our trips with our kids. It was so hard for me to plan them more than 11 months out, but that was the only way to get a room. Even 7 months out they were all sold out back then. Our kids are older so we have not gone back as often, but in the earlier years we used to go every summer. We bought into Aulani too so now that is our go to vacation destination.
