Gran Destino Tower, no power

Lots of edginess here now. I got flat out yelled at by the GM of Maya Grill for complaining about a problem with a drink. The ridiculing of people sharing their stories about what they've been going through the past couple of days at Coronado is unfair. Bad things DO happen at Disney, and being at Disney does NOT somehow magically make them not bad. Pixie doesn't isn't actually a real thing.

Just because some people whish they were at Disney right now doesn't mean people should pretend that crappy situations they experience on property aren't really crappy--for what? To make other people feel better? Coronado is experiencing a systemic meltdown right now, and it is not a cool situation. And no one staying here right now has a duty to sugarcoat that for anyone else.
Interesting to hear it is in fact affecting the entire resort. Figured our stay in 10 days would be fine since we are in the casitas but we are staying there to try Toledo and Dahlia so perhaps we should peak at availability elsewhere to ease some of the burden.
 
2 things.

1 - Don't put words in my mouth. I accused no one of lying, what I said is not the same and if you don't understand the difference between saying some posts can be hyperbolic and calling someone a liar, I'm not going to bother explaining because I'm sure we can all guess how that will turn out.

2 - No, doesn't have me worried in the slightest. Not one tiny bit. If it happens again next month, and then again, maybe I'll have a passing thought. These last two days? I won't even remember it tomorrow.

You said you take what people post with a grain of salt. Either the power went out or it did not.

EDIT: I see based on other posts there is a little more aggressive exchange going on so I apologize for aggravating the situation. I just took it as not really believing posts on this thread about the power going out which was not your point it was about how poor Disney was reacting to the situation and people exaggerating that.

I thought it was a mass voicemail that went out yesterday morning, and assumed they were contacting and moving all of the affected guests yesterday afternoon. We actually had a pretty miserable first 2 days due to terrible neighbors, so things have been looking up for us. Best wishes for everyone else!

Glad to read you are away from those neighbors! Has the bus gotten any better?
 
Mike, I’m so sorry your bad day continued into dinner. Like you said, everyone there is clearly on edge (guests and staff alike). Is it ok for a manager to be snippy? Absolutely not but at least you know why he did it.

I’m also sorry you feel like you are being attacked (I personally don’t see it here, but you absolutely were on your FB post to a CSR group).

My advice is to walk away from social media and try to make the best of the rest of your vacation. We’re all just strangers on the internet so our feelings, judgements, thoughts don’t matter. Go be with your loved ones who really DO matter.

Sorry, going to take more than that! ;) Today was them fixing yesterday. Here in Chicago they kept turning our power off for hours a day for a week to change light poles after a transformer blew (does that even make sense? why so many light poles...). It sucked. Annoying for you all there right now? Absolutely!

Like sick days at my job, I count this whole incident as one occurrence.
But again, if it keeps happening, I'll start to think a little more about it. :)

I live in Chicago too and I'm absolutely certain you aren't paying $4,000 a week to stay there. Unlike tower guests.

I’m glad to hear that they actually did communicate. I heard from many others that cast members were acting like nothing was happening, had little to no information and that it wasn’t well communicated. It’s the first I’ve heard of a voicemail notification and I’m happy that they took that approach. Good that it was well handled and resolved for you! Hope that you enjoy the rest of your vacation.
Not sure why you keep thinking I’m angry. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are yours. I didn’t omit any information as I’m not onsite and never claimed to be. I also didn’t “tell me side of the story” but rather shared the experiences I had heard about the situation. I’ll also point out that I’m the person who started the current Coronado FAQ thread here on the DIS. So I’m certainly not a hater. I’ve enjoyed many stays at Coronado, I just didn’t like what I heard about the handling of this situation.

I've owned my own business for 30 years, I've been Little League Board President and I'm currently the Board President at my HOA. I hear people complain constantly and the most common thing with the complainers is they don't tend to tell the entire truth. I always listen to folks, but I don't believe people, I believe fact and common sense reasoning.
As for communication, I've found many people claim that communication is an issue. When in reality it usually isn't a communication issue, but a lack of control issue. Anger for the most part stems from control issues and people who are not in control will often times lie, cheat, steal and especially slander those that are in control.
Plus, I already knew from an 18 year old kid that has a YouTube channel how Disney handle the situation yesterday. I just believed that if Disney took care of an 18 year old kid that was staying by himself, then they likely handled every adult and family in the same manner. I decided a few years back that I just wouldn't repeat anything negative that I heard until I fully knew if it were true, for me that's the definition of gossip. If I live in the positive it's always better for my stress level. ha
 
Oh.... So there is another side to the story. Amazing, who would have thought that their were actually two sides! Ha
I find that angry people omit the truth a lot when they are telling their side of the story. Ha
Communication is important, but understanding is superior!

There have now been two days of power outages and a day two elevator outage on top of that, along with Dahlia Lounge down for the second night in a row, and still no proactive communication about what's going on.

Unless I've read the reports wrong there was one power outage. The second one today was a short planned outage to reboot all the systems after replacing the trans former. The elevator outage was also a planned outage to reboot the system.

Is this not correct?

I have an unwritten rule to not go to a new restaurant until at least a month after it opens to give them time to work out the kinks. With this being a whole high rise resort, it is very likely there will be kinks in the operations/systems the first few weeks, be it equipment, procedures, etc. All the testing and dry runs prior to opening won’t always detect issues because there isn’t the real guest traffic using their systems. It’s understandable there will be opening month issues they need to work through.

This sounds like an incredibly inconvenient situation and it’s understandable that guests are upset given what they are paying for their trip. But from what I’m reading it seems Disney made it right for most. Sounds like some received communications throughout the day and some didn’t - maybe an opportunity for Disney to improve.

To those who are questioning a future stay, personally, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here if I have an upcoming stay. Operations will get smoother as time goes by and they have a chance to work through grand opening kinks. But people handle things differently (which is perfectly okay) and if the thought of staying there is totally stressful to you, by all means go ahead and change to an alternate resort if you’re able.
 
FYI all elevators have emergency brakes. You will not plummet to your ToT style demise. If it drops, it will be a few feet at most before the brake kicks in. Power is not required to activate the brake.
This is accurate. Random side story: I was once trapped alone in an elevator. It was grinding the gears so hard, it caused rubber to start smoking and set off the smoke alarms in the building. The emergency button did not work and I had no idea if there was a fire. Eventually, the elevator dropped a few feet (I figured because of the grinding gears). The fire department had to pry me out and I had to jump down as it was between floors. Scary and embarrassing for me (at a job site). Afterwards, I actually had a few nightmares about falling elevators, even though it didn't fall far. Needless to say, not a fan of TOT anymore. :)

Ok - reassuring and not reassuring at the same time, LOL!! It's really good to know there are emergency brakes! Though my claustrophobia mixed with DS's anxiety disorder would put being trapped in an elevator into the realm of the irrational and I still don't think we could rationally get through the elevator dropping without a lot of screaming! I'll just have to hope that never happens to us.

Again, really hope the issues at CSR are resolved soon. We've had one day hiccups at a few resorts and it wasn't fun, but we were always able to right the vacation ship the next day. Multiple days of power and elevator outages cannot be fun :(
 
Sorry for the intrusion! Does the water still run during the power outage? Most importantly, does the loo still work?
 
How are things today? We arrive Saturday and just hoping to get a feel for what we should expect.
