Graduation Party - What's a good theme for a boy?

I've read about the candy buffet, but that sounds like something that would be more for a girl, yes?
Has anyone done a theme type of graduation party for their son? Actually, my son said he does not want a graduation party - but he only graduates from high school once and I want to do something special for him.
Any ideas for non-party celebrations would be appreciated too!

I just asked my ds if he wanted a candy buffet for his grad party. First he was like your son, not wanting a party. But after we talked about it, and I explained what a candy buffet was, he thought it sounded cool. So that is what we are doing.

Our dd had a luau party, which was really fun, but not a guy's theme!
I've heard of taco bars and ice cream sundae bars.

Usually every grad party I go to is just the typical graduation party with school colors and finger food.

we rented out space at a neighborhood pool, had a combo bday/grad party. It was a blast and we had a 5 hourtime block..so kids could come and go as they pleased. Since we rented teh patio space we could decorate and set food out.

I would talk to him again about the whole party idea. Tell him what you thought you would spend on the party, and ask him what else he would like to do with the money. You could set limits as in, "it has to be something the whole family can do," or "one big purchase," or "a weekend trip......"

If someone really doesn't want a party I would not do one.

BUT if he decides to have a party we did a taco/nacho bar and it was a huge hit.

We had a open house at our church with 2 of his friends. They had all wanted an open house. We did a buffet lunch with pulled pork, hot roast beef, deli trays and the usual meatball and sausage type food plus things like fruit and veggie trays and chips. We also did a candy buffet. I did candy from their childhood with things like smarties, ring pops, blow pop type candies. I didn't spend too much and it was all gone at the end.

We didn't have a theme, but we had displays of their school years and a video of their show choir performances playing in the background.

We did get some heat from my parents about having it at our church, they wanted a place were alcohol could be served, but I said no way. The kids had all grown up together at our church and it held a special meaning to them. Besides, it was right across the street from the high school and we had it the Saturday afternoon the day after their graduation, so we had a great turnout. The kids all just went from open house to open house all that day and we were just one more stop!

We are planning on doing the same when our DD graduates in a few years. Its easy because there is lots parking and lots of room and a huge kitchen!

My 2 older boys had it at the fellowship hall at the church. They had some tables set up with their school memorabilia and photos. We had other pictures and video clips looping on the tv (thru the computer). Then we had simple food. Sean had ham salad, chips, cake, m&ms, and a couple other things that I can't remember. Ryne had sloppy joes, a corn and cornbread crock pot thing, chips, cookies. They both had cake, punch and soda.

Don't know what mark wants for his menu this year....but he needs to get on it.

My son will be attending LSU and we are having a "tailgate" backyard party. We will do those school colors. I like the idea of a candy buffet as well. Who is ever really too old for candy? Wonder if we could figure out how to do it in purple and gold? We plan on having typical tailgate activites llike football, frisbee etc. I'd love more ideas though. Thanks for starting this thread.

Do yellow m&m's, skittles, jelly belly beans and any other candy you can get in yellow. Serve it in Purple dishes. I have fiesta ware in purple & gold. Love it for our LSU game day parties.

To slightly embarass him....do "Success comes in Numbers"...

Then have pictures of him from age 1 - now :)

Great idea! I've seen lots of yellow candy ideas, but very few purple so this really helps!
