What's the going rate to give at graduation parties these days?


This is my boyfriends son. He's not immediate family yet, but also not friends/neighbors/babysitters/coworker's kid.

My daughter got anywhere from $20 to $50 from friends and family members. (her grandparents gave her more, but aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends? Between 20 and 50.)

My kids Godparents daughter was graduation HS this year. I gave a gas $15 GC. I hate the stigmatism what others put on you to give. You give what you can or what your heart tells you to give.

That is what I would do, too.

I think $25-50 should be sufficient. This is always a hard decision, but give what you feel is adequate or can afford.

We gave our nephew $300.00. For a boyfriend's son, I'd probably give $50.00.

As a high school teacher, I get invited to a ton of these parties. I find that just a couple of dollars, like $5, on a Starbucks GC is really all they need.

Don't feel pressured to spend a lot of money... if you send it with a nice, heartfelt "you did good, kid" note, it'll be fine.

LOL yes.

High school $25-$50 unless it is a very close friend or relative.

But really, it's what you want to give. I hate it when people say what you 'should' give.

I went to a bar mitzvah in the city and 2 different people told me 'you have to give at least $500'. Huh? I gave $250 and I didn't get a ty card. I felt like I paid the kid $250 to be a rude brat.

My DD just graduated. She's received $25, $50, and $75 amounts from family members.
