Grad nite

So I have a SINGLE day in Disneyland in May... I don't have flexibility in dates at all -- had to shift things to squeeze in one day... and it turns out it is a grad nite day. Better one grad nite day than no day. So... we go with it.

Reading about the "new" grad nite scheme has me confused. Can you tell me how the parks operate on a grad nite? Approximate shifts in hours, etc.?

What do you mean by "new" grad night scheme?

The parks operate like the do any other day whether it's a grad night or not. The only difference is that after DCA closes to the general public, those students attending grad night are able to remain in the park for the actual grad night. DCA doesn't really close any earlier than "normal" when there is a grad night.

The new thing, as I understand it, is that as of like two years ago the grads are allowed to hop parks as long as the parks are open. And before they were limited to the hosting park (DCA)

Glad to hear the day runs on schedule.... do you know -- on a weekday grad nite -- what time are the grads likely to invade?

Oh, okay...when you said "new" I was thinking it meant "new" for this year (2015)! Correct, the grads are allowed to park hop during the day. I would expect a majority of grads to start arriving after noon. I don't recall seeing a large number at park opening, but by lunch there were a fair number of teenage groups wearing wristbands (which I assume meant they were there for grad nite).

During the three I've experienced the teens started trickling in around noon, building as the afternoon went on. I would spend my time on the big ticket type rides in Disneyland in the morning, because those are the rides that get pretty busy as the day goes on. We hopped over to DCA later in the day. Since the kids are spending their after hours party time in DCA, most of them spend their early time, before their party, in Disneyland.

Lol. I still consider grad night the way it was before dca started hosting it, so to me, the fact that it's at dca is new. Kind of bummed that when that change happened years ago, my school district moved to magic mountain. I would love to chaperone a grad nite.

Anyway, the parks may be slightly more crowded, but it's really not much different than a normal day. You'll be fine.
